Methinks the real intel gathering is concerned with SIGINT... i.e. sniffing electronic transmissions. That's no bueno...unless we knew all along and we're feeding them crap...also possible.
Bottom line: we don't know and won't know. This could have been the end to a brilliant spy v. spy operation, a demonstration of American impotence, or something in between. I certainly hope it's the first.

Because there is no argument that can be one with actual facts and information by folks from that sphere of thought. So instead they bring up Trump and if you say anything then you're quoting talking points from Fox News or News Max. That's pretty much the only thing they can say because actual debate and discussion is not part of their DNA at this point. Which is truly unfortunate.

Yeah…keep thinking that. I understand our military is the best in the world but we continue to let other countries just do whatever they want and be financially and product dependent on them and watch what happens

We can? Funny you use feed yourself because that’s a big issue right now. Nutrition utilized in long term care and a lot of the issues are because of ingredients and access to packaging because of China

That's largely because of politically imposed self-sanction. We can produce a lot of what we get from China (and elsewhere) but we don't because of politics.

Yes we will be fine. But at what cost will we have to pay to be fine if we don't start to deal with things prior to them becoming a crisis?
China is at its apex right now. They have a huge excess of military age males and their population is only going to shrink in the coming decades. They are a totalitarian regime and oftentimes when at peak power those types of regimes will strike out to expand their power and control. That is what makes me nervous. I would not be hugely surprised to see them blockade Taiwan at some point in the near future. Then things get really complicated.
Agreed and hate Trump or not he is on record in the 90s saying we were too reliant on China and you can’t just up and start producing what we get from other countries. Too much regulation in starting up manufacturing

I think it's important when talking about this issue to remember that there was a view that China was going to go toward being a more free market partner and then everything changed. There was a lot of investment prior to that and a lot of companies just didn't want to turn their back on such a big market. The problem is that as things have gotten worse and worse in China we have been very slow to recognize what they are and who they are. Now we're there and nothing but hard choices are left. It's a very complicated situation at this juncture.
Maybe, maybe not but China will continue to push the envelope because they know they can. Period…and it isn’t just my profession. It’s every profession.
And yes it will be a factor. The unfortunate part is people that don’t think it’s a big deal that China is pushing to see how far they can push
