I will be thanking Mrs. James come November,

The moronic charges brought against Trump has made him a World Wide Figure to Be Sympathized with for the outlandish claims made by Mrs. James and the Judge who will have a statue named in his honor for stupidity if the goal was to stop Trump.

Trump is going to win and in winning the people the Democratic Left Liberal folks who concocted this farce of a business fraud trial will forever be cursed by an asterisk denoting the shame they have brought to the American system of Justice

Due process and trial by jury along woth an appeals process.

The fine is so ridiculous that I cannot imagine any fair minded person thinking that how do you fine someone for following typical business practices of virtually every real estate developer in America

I personally have witnessed many and when I say many I mean not in dozens but in hundreds more like thousands where in dealing with loaning money or selling or buying there was an asset valuation by both sides and in most cases a third side unbiased.

So the deals Trump did were perfectly legal .

All the NY folks have now done is SCARE THE LIVING HELL out of every investor globally who was considering buying and selling in NY

Thank you New York

I penned a letter last week to our SC Commerce Department and Governors office asking we run ads in NY and on Fox Business telling SC’s story about the state will NEVER try to seize private assets like NY

Already starting to hear from foreign companies on this as Kevin Oleary is talking about this too.

Total SNAFU FOR NY

And before it is all over the DA and Judge will regret this mess they created

Correct, if you issue false financial statements and falsify business records to inflate asset values and make hundreds of millions off of that fraud, you could be next - TRUE

Not that you have the open mind to hear a reasonable voice

Inflating and deflating assets is a common business process

It is done every day

Apparently you have never done a financial deal beyond cashing your paycheck

They don’t teach it in college

But strategy in business makes one make money

Apparently you have never done much

Yeah, that's illegal and actually isn't done in Publicly traded companies anymore since Sarbanes Oxley. How long has it been since you were working?

I know exactly what Sarbanes Oxley is as I had some legal issues with a Fortune 50 with operating subsidiaries calling across companies.

Sarbanes Oxley really has nothing to do with appraisals of assets by people who are in that business.

For example on private residential sales a comp is used where the value of a moderately maintained house is compared to the last selling values of houses in the neighborhood.

If for example you have a really nice house that cost $1,000,000.00 to build in a sub-division that the average house costs or sells for $ 500,000.00 the million-dollar house value will be severely pulled down instead of netting the million.

Now for a real estate TIP. Buy the cheapest house in the sub-division to tear down and build new or maybe remodel. Usually build new nets more money. Take that to the bank.

Then on commercial much of the same applies except it is based on corner lots and income produced per square foot along with what a person thinks they can locate there to generate income based on location. This is so subjective no living soul can predict an exact dead nuts evaluation.

Then we go to INDUSTRIAL. This can be all over the board. For example, I just made an offer to buy land in Orangeburg County for $200,000.00 for rezoning industrial.

Owner accepted with me having 30m days due diligence. When I went to check on site prep issues the costs of water mitigation and site plans escalated to $450,000.00 to create a plan as there were wetlands of a small acreage on the 100 acres. The site planning made it impossible to buy the land for the use intended. Walked away from deal.

Because of that on any land purchases I make I maintain AGRICULTURAL USE for tax map and zoning purposes as the moment you say industrial the taxes jump out the roof and regulations go off the charts.

I can do anything I want as to bulldoze, land clearing, ditching, draining, etc. as long as it is AGRICULTUAL.

I do all my work under Agricultural and then rezone after the work. Am I being deceptive. Maybe but it's my choice.

FRAUD HELL NO AS I HAVE A RIGHT TO CHANGE MY MIND

Get off this fraud kick as WHAT you are thinking is corrupted by TDS

TRUMP ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG

None of that has anything to do with overvaluing assets. Trump isn't in trouble because he applied to rezone his property. He's in trouble because he overinflated the value of his property on financial documents during the loan application process.

You can call it a "victimless crime" all you want - but the fact of the matter is, it's still a crime.

It's so weird to me that they are admitting he committed a crime, but now we are focused on the fact that it was "victimless" as if that matters.

Despite what people say about there are no dumb questions.

There are dumb answers.

Take a suggestion and go offer to buy a business and see what price the owner wants.

But have your price you are willing to pay written in your pocket which you hand to owner before he says what he wants.

Do they match?

Usually, the buyer underestimates the price, and the owner usually overestimates the price.

and neither may be wrong based on the information they are going off.

Basic Business Negotiating 101

Buy and Read Trump' Art of the Deal for your primer and then go do some deals.

Yes, your response proves the bolded. Once again, you're not grasping the conversation. None of that is applicable to this situation at all.

Submitting false financial valuations to secure loans is absolutely illegal. Negotiating with someone to buy their business has nothing to do with what Trump is being investigated for. Trump leveraged his property to secure a loan using false financial valuations.

You don't have to take my word for it, but I do this shit every day in the O&G industry.

lol why would anyone listen to Trump for business advice? He inherited everything he has and he would have been better off just putting his money in the stock market instead of losing tons of money on air lines, casinos and vodka.

The left argument here is so old and childish that it's just gotten weird! I am starting to bow out of a lot of these conversations now because it's just a child's game anymore.
Since 2019 we have seen many of the left posters here, just vanish, it's the same old 3 or 4 now who would look you in the face and tell you that they jumped into the ocean and didn't get wet.
Here's to a great November!
We will finally get our country back. The great citizens of the United States, with any bit of brain activity, both right, left, and in-between have seen the fabrication of falsehoods and outright descension brought upon us by the left.
We will learn from our mistakes and this country will be great again!
Thank GOD!

Commie tactics.

Prediction: These will be overturned on appeal. It's obvious. We are not Russia. This is election interference folks.

They knew how much cash he had through discovery and then they made the fine almost that exact amount. All to make Trump not have cash to campaign on.

It's not safe to do business in New York. All developers are on notice. They know they will be next. And they all do the same thing. New York is anti-business, anti-capitalism, and they will take your property if they don't like the way you think.

This is the stuff that causes empires to fall.

For the sake of argument, let's concede his overstating assets was illegal. The problem wit h this case is Trump is being singled out and punished far from what would be considered equal treatment(punishment in this case) under the law.
When else do prosecutors spend such an extraordinary amount to bring a case in a victimless crime?
Even still, the complete miscarriage of justice is the punishment. I assume you deal in and are aware of large value transactions and suits brought as a result of those. Have you ever seen any judgement where the penalty was such a large portion of the entities net worth for a "crime" where no one was injured?
Do you not think the judgment is absolutely ridiculous?

I find it funny that people believe businesses can't operate without committing fraud, since you're basically using the defense that everyone commits crimes, so Trump shouldn't be singled out.

Overstating assets on financial forms for the purpose of getting loans IS illegal. There's no reason to argue against it, since it's factually an illegal act. He's being held liable, not for the harm it caused others, but for the POTENTIAL harm others could've endured due to his actions.

Calling it a victimless crime is pointless and only serves to try and absolve blame for committing fraud. No one being injured, or harmed, is pointless since a large portion of white collar crimes are "victimless." That doesn't make them any less important to prosecute and dole out punishment.

There's been a handful of "victimless" criminals that have had similar judgements passed against them - wrt their assumed net worth. Ivan Boesky, the recent Wells Fargo fraud case a decade ago, and Volkswagen's emissions fraud are just a few off the top of my head. VW is probably the most relevant because all they did was fudge emissions data, and they were hit to the tune of like $40ish billion? There's also Pfizer's lawsuit from back during the Bush-era where they were fined billions for paying doctors to specifically prescribe their medicine to their patients. I don't believe there were any side effects to the medicine, just that it was a pay-for-play scheme if I remember correctly.

edit: Do I think the judgement is ridiculous? I think it was overzealous, and was probably chosen due to his recent depo where he said he had $500mm on hand. Then again, the NYAG could've used a formula to determine what to charge - i.e. 4x his profit of the fraud, but I don't know.

I keep asking myself

There is no victim

Companies overstate or understate all the time operating information whether we like to admit it or not

Property owners wanting to keep property understate the property value to pay less taxes

Dam what kind of education did you folks get

This is not like a homeowners loan where back in 2008 people living in their cars valued their car as like $50,000

These are big boys who know the game

All of us folks on this site are minnows who don’t know a hole in the ground from our butts

The irony is they were all up in arms about Hunter and Joe being criminals bc of some vague ass emails and the word of a bunch of Russian stooges.

Donny literally goes “yeah I did illegal stuff, but everyone else commits fraud so what’s the problem?” And they don’t seem to bat an eye.

Hypocrisy at its finest

Man. I watched the clemson game in a bar and got totally smashed. I don't remember driving home at all. It was a victimless crime, though, so I will do it again when they play next thursday.

And usually if the estimate is not agreeable between two parties lawyers with appraisers get involved in the estimates.
