Due to today's society not wanting to work

This is all a steaming load of horse shit. It all comes down to a small percentage of obscenely greedy people not wanting to give up any more than they're legally bound to do, and they only give up that because they're legally bound to do it.

Half of you people would maintain slave labor if you could get away with it.
Hahaha

So Angry

They could but as business owner, they have the right to choose how to run their business and if they want to operate for the betterment of everyone or for their own benefit.
I agree with that, but their stubbornness is a one way street. The people they want working those jobs aren't going to do it anymore because they don't have to.

Okay so how do you explain the fact that minimum wage hasn't gone up in 14 years? I'm all ears for this one.
Minimum wage doesn't have to go up for that to happen.

Supply chain issues, inflation, interest rates from the fed being historically low gave lots of people extra buying power, etc.

The F&B industry is already quite saturated. Like anything, it'll adapt though. AI could be trained to take orders, the customer could put orders in on tablets. Someone said earlier in the thread but a minimum tip is not the worst idea; I get the work for your tips but there are a fork ton of cheap assholes out there that leave $0 or $1 on $50 (it should change from parties above 6 or whatever number to parties who spend over $X) if you're going to keep the tip system. The previous generation put a McDs, Starbucks, and every other chain restaurant on every corner. That's going to HIGHLY drive down the number of mom and pop shops that can survive.

Anyway, the rest of the developed world doesn't have an issue with the non-tip based system. It stemmed from greedy assholes who opened bars and restaurants basically saying the customers should pay my employees instead of me.

The whole tip-based system could be blown up and fix a lot of this.

But the post you quoted blamed it on minimum wage hikes. Sorry if I've got my wires crossed here.

Agree whole-heartedly on the tip system. It's stupid as hell.

I agree that putting out that statement is not correct. People don't want to work that job on that night for what they are offering.

it's very true. Younger folks don't want to work anymore. My wife, who is a nurse, held an interview with a recent high school grad for an open receptionist position. The young lady was offered $15 an hour to answer the phones. She declined the job offer because she "needed" to make $21/hour. TO ANSWER PHONE CALLS.
$21/hr is what you're making at Bucee's now a days.

Yeah that's about how I read it too.

Start paying people a living wage and today's society will happily come work. Whiny fvckin bitches. I rarely get back over to Clemson these days but I sure as hell won't be spending money at a place with that sense of entitlement.

If I was a college kid it would make me certain they don't pay enough to have to put up with a boss and a schedule.

Communist out!

Wait hold on one more. It's society's fault that you're forced to give your employees a day off is really just too rich. This guy's delusional.
Wow are you a politician? And if you are not I hope you cannot vote and reproduce.
You are so disconnected from reality it is scary. This country’s lack of work ethic, particularly in the trades, has been on a steep decline for over 15 years. It has nothing to do with remuneration. It has to do with a sense of entitlement. Please do stay away from Clemson!

Hahaha jeezus harold christ on rubber crutches. Now I'm going to start coming over more.

I am right there with you. I am by no means a communist, just someone who realizes capitalism 21st century American style is unsustainable if future generations are to have any chance. It needs to be regulated in much more responsible ways.

And I agree with your brother 100%. They think it's all theirs and the rules are only for the little people.

It’s like the massive insurance rate increases. WTF? Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should ANY PREMIUM raise more than 10-15%/year if you didn’t make a claim.

It’s freakin theft, actual real theft from all of us who have done nothing to deserve it.

Basically we are allowing the entire insurance consortium to walk right into our homes and scoop up free money. Sure you can shop around but we are all taking the hit…… for other thefts.

Word to your mother! It is theft and I've been using that specific word for several years now. Not only is it freakin real, actual theft, it's freakin LEGAL real, actual theft.

Then I'd recommend they find more meaningful employment. That's not out of touch. That's the truth.
This. People don't understand many jobs are only worth so much, no matter who is doing it. If you are stocking shelves at CVS making $12, the job is worth $12 no matter if your a 16 year old or a 50 year old with a masters degree. Its still a $12 unskilled job.

Minimum wage hasn't gone up since 2009, but everything costs 3x today what it cost then.

There's a bigger wealth gap now than there's been in this country since labor laws were introduced, and it's leading to bad, bad places. Share the wealth a little more and everyone can be happy. Try and take it to the grave with you and see what happens.
I can tell you what happens, they take it to their grave and then it is given to Gen X.

No, lots and lots and lots of people work those jobs for way more than beer and gas money. Only someone very out of touch with the real world could think such a thing.
I'm not out of touch. I own a small business and understand that no matter how qualified a person may be, certain unskilled jobs are only worth so much.

My (as many other’s) success has been driven and created by my drive to help my family benefit. Over two decades ago, I began my career at $11/hr, and I know I’m not alone.

Those sons/daughters deserve what their blood earned.

My children will benefit from my hard work.

You can’t reason with laziness waiting on someone else to give them something. Waste of time.

I think a lot of managers and general managers are starting to find out just how wrong this is. In fact, I know they are.

Soon enough the owners and executives will too.

LoL this guy is actually blaming high minimum wage 🤣🤣🤣 winner for most out of touch by a country mile
Have you ever run a business or balanced a checkbook? Most small businesses (Esso probably) often run on very thin margins. If you pay waiters $20 an hour the burgers are going to be $30, no one buys them and the place closes and the workers are unemployed.

You simply do not understand. More and more people everyday are realizing they could work for someone like you, who won't pay them a living wage, or for themselves, on their time. It's a no brainer for anyone with a lick of sense.

You can blame it on society or younger generations all you want but you're pissin in the wind.

Only worth so much to you but maybe not a potential employee. There's more options for workers. Jobs that didn't exist 4-5 years ago have been created especially on the low end of the scale. Think about the number of people that may have waited tables but have now decided to make money from being a door dash delivery person or an uber driver. Think about the large increase in delivery drivers from 5 years ago. Jobs for unskilled labor are competing with those opportunities that may offer better pay than answering a phone for $15/hr.

No, they go get other, better jobs that are now available to them.

Good for that young lady. She's determining her value for herself, and not letting some greedy pig determine it for her.
or she will realize that $15 an hour is what you get with only a high school diploma. I hope she then works to better her education level and obtain a job that will pay her more.

Then good for them. If they can get a job that pays more then obviously they should take it.

In the right city those 3rd party delivery drivers can make 6 figures a year if they know how to hustle. Bullshit hourly wages cannot compete with that.

I disagree. I’ve spent the last 6 months trying to get an electrician to replace my freight dock lights with LEDs. It’s very hard to find skilled labor. It is very easy to find a useless college grad to work in a cubicle that contributes nothing to a company.

When my wife bartended at TTTs in college she was making well over 1k a week. She was making over 60k part time bartending for Rick Erwin’s. Serving and bartending pay more than most entry level college grad jobs. Also why my wife left her entry level college grad position to go back Into bartending.

The issue is we have incentivized people to not work. Democrat Donald Trump being the most to blame for his liberal helicopter money policies. Weirdly enough liberal voted him out for the racist neocon Biden.
100% Correct!
My wife has to pretty much beg to hire workers from anywhere $16-$19 per hour in her work.

I've found that most business owners, especially small business owners, work their asses off and are entitled to good pay. If they didn't, then what is the incentive to work hard, start and run a business (and create jobs) and deal with all the long hours and stress?
