We will see what happens.
A lot of people following this investigation are reminded of the controversy surrounding Hillary Clinton’s possible mishandling of government records with her emails. While serving as secretary of state, she used a private email server.
The FBI also
investigated Clinton. Former FBI Director James Comey said they “did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues intended to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.”
Clinton was not charged in the investigation concerning those
federal records.
Before Clinton, the first email scandal was actually under former President Ronald Reagan.
Two of his aides, John Poindexter and Oliver North, were convicted of
destroying public records when
they deleted hundreds
of emails related to the
Iran-Contra affair.
Reagan
apologized for the scandal, Poindexter resigned as
national security adviser and North was dismissed. Both aides were convicted.
Reagan is
just one of many presidents including George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush accused of trying to hide government records but none faced criminal penalties.
