Job vacancies everywhere

Lol. You are completely clueless in this thread. Unlimited vacation works in a bigger organization in which other employees can fill in when you are out. It doesn't work in a small business that usually has many single points of daily failure.

You are trying to apply some misguided economic theory that you learned in your MBA program to real world scenarios that simply don't align.
Ive consulted with start ups and currently work at one. It works.

Cross training, how does it work?

Deal of the Day! AND IT'S ALL FREE!!!! Yipeee!
You and a friend can rent an apartment near/in Charleston for $1800 a month among the working folk, split the cost and still have about $60 each per day left over to spend on other things. Many places include internet in the rent but if not there are government programs for that. Don't forget to get your SNAP benefits. Be sure to get your assurance wireless plan that comes at no cost to you so then your $60 per day doesn't need to be wasted on groceries, utility bills, or other things. Boooo. You can spend it on fun things!! I know right! Duh! Everyone knows that!

But most importantly......Make sure you enjoy your time sleeping in, relaxing, maybe smoking a little bud, going to the beach every day, and just enjoy the little things. Perhaps participate in a local protest or two. Be sure to thank a worker, any worker, for their service and tax dollars. After all. Living in by far the most expensive city in the state wouldn't be possible without their sacrifice.

Look out! Flash sale!
To really stretch your dollar. Try out our other locations in rural SC where the cost of living is 1/5 of Charleston to maximize your non-essential item and fun budgets. YAY!!

***This is 100% complete satire btw. So lighten up Francis. I'm mostly kidding.

A lot of folks that believe the left is comprised of full blown socialists, that want to control the masses by giving them just enough to live, aren’t making the connection that the government is competing with the private sector through unemployment benefits. Amazing. Capitalism was a stretch comparison, though.

Trump effectively increased the MW to $15/hr when he extended unemployment benefits to $600/week. Steve Manuchin didn't have a clue. Republicans signed it like a bunch of idiots. Democrats loved every minute of it. All they know is to spend spend spend. Trump pretty much zero'ed out any Capitalist improvements in his last two years by engaging in a tit for tat trade war and his response to Covid. Biden basically wiped out every executive order he made on day one. As you can see the market is over 33,000 because the trade war is off. That could have been Trump's after his first year but he went all ego on his trade war with CHINA who then reciprocated with Corona. Again. Democrats rejoiced and now we have Karen's.

The only economic improvements Trump left us with are the tax cuts and we can export our own oil now and that's it. The three SCOTUS picks will help if they get out of their own way and take some cases.

As a grocery store manager it’s tough to find anyone right now. 2 years ago if I put out a cashier opening I would get 30 applications in a week. I put one up Thursday and have had 1 applicant. I put one up a month ago and got 11. Same for full time positions I can’t get anyone decently qualified to apply. Luckily I keep my store over staffed and send help out to other stores so I’m in pretty good shape, but this is the worst I’ve ever seen it. Hell even last year during the pandemic I had people coming In begging for a job

I assume you’re referring to both sides of Congress with the spending fetish.

No, unlimited vacation is a current trend. Get your work done and we don’t care about the hours you’re behind you desk.

I agree. My patients don’t love waiting 4-6 weeks to have their procedures but I have fish to catch, golf to play and beers to drink. If they need to restart the whole appointment and pre-cert process with another office then so be it.

You don’t understand how unlimited vacation works. If there’s work to do and you can’t have someone else fill in....you uh.....don’t go on vacation.

I understand how it works. I take as much vacation as I want and I am incredibly busy and producing during the times I elect to work. People can choose to wait on the service provided or seek to get that service elsewhere

unlimited vacation is a scam anyway. It's just a move to get a liability off the books for the business and research indicates that's employees end up taking off less time in these arrangements. I worked for one org that did it well, though when they flipped to the unlimited approach, they paid out the accrued time off @ only 75%. For this model to work, the culture has to support it and leadership has to model it. Unfortunately, that's not what usually ends up happening.

I have now seen probably a dozen news shows and articles where small business owners and even large corporations cannot get people to work. I think most of us have been saying it since the first unemployment checks with no strings attached were cut under Trump and continued with Biden. Why would people work when they are getting paid huge amounts to stay home? Here in Columbia SC, there is a huge need for people to work. From restaurants to moving companies, to large construction companies such as Hood. They can't find people to hire. Even Delta and other airlines have said recently that they can't find employees and have had to cancel flights because they didn't have the staff. Many local places are concerned that when the college kids go home for the summer that there will be no one to work as they students are more willing to work than the working class.

I can't tell you how many conversations I have had with others about how the unemployment payments are too high for lower income states. There is zero incentive to go back to work. Most of the small businesses here in SC have said that they didn't lay off a single person due to coronavirus yet their employees simply walked off the job and won't return. One dude interviewed on WIS that owns a moving company went for the jugular and flat out said that they are blatantly abusing the state and federal unemployment systems. The CEO of Hood construction said they are getting way behind on projects for the same reason.

SC lawmakers have said that they see this is a problem and are going to address it by eliminating the work search exemption soon. Meaning it will go back to what it normally is where you have to show proof of job searching and application statuses and limits on how long you can stay on it. So it is good news that the state government at least acknowledges this is a problem. The bad news is that when these benefits go away and people are expected to work again, weening them off the government tit is going to cause a lot of bellyaching and sob stories.
Ya'll realize that most folks, especially young people, a) don't get much for unemployment, and b) don't get it for long. You only get what you have paid into the system. The 20-somethings aren't sitting back and not working because of fat unemployment checks rolling in. It's just not true.

From the SC site:
"Your weekly benefit amount will be approximately 50% of your average weekly wage during your base period, subject to a weekly minimum of $42 and a maximum of $326. Benefits are typically available for up to 20 weeks, although the federal CARES Act has extended this by an additional 13 weeks."

My wife has worked off and on for 20 years. When she lost her job last spring, she was granted about 8 weeks of benefits.
