This was prior to the apartments being built. What I read cited shop lifting as the main complaint. But I can tell you that there is a big homeless problem Seneca and a favorite past time of these folks seems to be getting on the free public transportation and enjoying the climate controlled environments it affords them. Clemson happens to be one of the destinations.

I didn't realize this happened. Certainly makes sense now why Irmo has had so many problems recently.
Thank you for this post and the link. I read it and some other articles. I like challenging my beliefs and seeing different perspectives and thought processes. After meditating and critical thought I use everything I read and know to make my own conclusions.
"Low Income" apartments are being built left and right in Irmo. The area around the mall is getting bad. They also opened a "Stars and Strikes" in the old Piggly Wiggly just off the Interstate and you can't go at night because it gets rough. They even hire off duty police officers as security during the evenings.
You’re right, I live off lake Murray Blvd and knew those apts being built was gonna be bad news
That sucks. I used to live in Irmo and had an office for 20 years on Broad River behind Palmetto Firearms (across from the prison). Lucky we shut the office down when my business partner retired and I now work out of the house next door to my house (we own 2 houses next to each other).

I'm no gun advocate. I own a couple handguns and a shot gun for protection. However, to those that blame guns and want more gun laws my question is you're assuming the criminals will obey the law. Hell, even if we eradicated guns altogether, the thugs would still find them on the black market b/c they dont gaf. All that would do is leave the law abiding citizens w/o protection.
This is the only answer. My office is in Irmo. Irmo HS went from being amongst the best in the state 15-20 yrs ago, to making news for being a shit hole. Fatherless kids imo are the root of the problem. Politicians have a created a dependent class that is to far gone to undo. Not sure how we can break the cycle. Throwing more money and resources at the problem to win votes wont do shit. Thats why we're here in the first place.
These are gang members. It seems like every incident in a mall here in Columbia is gang related. The same issue(s) in Charleston as well. I quit going to the malls. I've seen issues in the foodcourts, etc. Law enforcement seems helpless or unwilling to do anything about this. Possibly for fear of racial implications when confronting these gangsters (hoodlums). The only way I would go to a mall is to have a gun with a conceal and carry permit, especially if I am with my family. If law-abiding citizens start protecting themselves and shooting these son-of-a-bitches, this may be the main way of stopping this. It sounds so stupid to say that we have to fight and take back our shopping centers and malls!!! What a time we live in!!!
Very well said. I hate this thread has gotten political. I don't have any answers. Maybe if we didn't incentivize welfare mothers for having more babies their would be less thugs and gangstas on the streets. They get paid based on the number of kids, and they many of them are alcoholics & crackheads who can't monitor or keep up with their own children.
