Nikki Haley says she will not block Syrian refugees.....

"While governors across the country have threatened to block efforts to resettle Syrian refugees in their states after terrorist attacks in Paris, Haley said that she supports refugees entering the Palmetto state and did not voice opposition or support for Syrians resettling in the state."

After throwing SC under the bus with the flag issue so soon after the Charleston murders and now endorsing the influx of future potential terrorists Haley is making a big stake in her plans for a future run for V.P.

Well she better hope someone picks her as something cause doing this ish will get her out of office here in SC real quick.

I agree with you partly, but I think her goals are bigger than VP. 100% chance she runs for president in 2024, if not 2020.

wow

even after watching the paris incident

knowing that any one of those refugees could be an assassin

i dont get the logic

beyond the trojan horse story

I don't think the governor could prevent them from coming to south carolina even if she wanted to, once they enter the USA legally. Just like anyone who enters the USA legally they have the right to travel to any of our 60 states. Now some governors might be saying they'll deny them, but that's just popular posturing and cannot be enforced.

why not

where in the constitution does it state specifically a state has to allow a refugee by executive office from president enter state?

You can't deny someone legally in this county not to travel. This is a violation of all kinds of laws and rights and in no way can south carolina or any other state prevent a person from traveling to their state solely based on national origin.

The one thing that would cause me to vote Democratic or not vote at all would be Haley on the republican ticket. I have been told directly by a person that recently ran for LGov. that Haley cut a deal with the RNC to hunch up to the confederate flag issue for a spot on the ticket in the near future.

My respect for Gov. Haley continues to increase.

You guys would have been real strong proponents of FDR putting Japanese Americans into concentration camps during WWII because "we couldn't trust Japs."

99 percent of the refugees are fleeing this type of terrorism. Many are Christian.

Some of the terrorists were apparently from Belgium. Do we turn away anyone from Belgium who wants to visit the U.S. or just the dark-skinned ones?

Where do you draw the line so you can be 100 percent safe?

Arbitrarily blocking any and all refugees is not the answer and doesn't represent the kind of nation I want to live in.

Yea but then they would have to choose and travel to your state, instead of being put there.

Yeaaaa, as @rhettmar said, the federal government has determined that the 10k or so refugees who will be coming to this country are eligible for whatever visa they will be here under. A state, generally, has no authority to limit the movement of people here legally.

It's not clear what all this grandstanding from governors is going to accomplish. Like the MI governor.

during a state of war a country should close its borders until war is over.

especially denying access from anyone who comes from countries we are bombing.

safety of american citizens is her primary job, thats more moral than allowing refugees into the state.

the world is a big place, send them somewhere else. geez....

Actually, the Constitution has nothing to do with state powers at all.
The purpose of the Constitution is to state what powers the States have given, and limited, the federal government to.
Powers given to the federal government are powers that have been given up by the States; such as maintaining a naval, issuing currency, and maintaining the borders.

Unfortunately, the federal government is no longer restrained by the Constitution in any way whatsoever. When you take away the right of secession, there is no reason for the federal government to stay within the tight confines of the constitution.

I am all in favor of locating unvetted refuges in those communities that say they want them .

Me I don't want unvetted refuges and the dangers they bring for my family or me.

I wish there was a way to punish people who agree to let them when things like the terrorist attacks occur

Like OBAMA wanting everyone to give up their guns but NOT his guns( SS)

I agree with you 100%. If terrorists want to get here, they will. Has nothing to do with coming in as refugees.

When the communists captured South Viet Nam, we made arrangements for many refugees to come to the United States. Some of those refugees and their offspring have become extraordinary and accomplished American citizens. After wars in Iraq, we made arrangements for persecuted Iraquis and translators for the military to come to the U.S. When Jews were being persecuted in the Soviet Union, we pleaded with the Soviets to let them emigrate to the U.S.

That is America!

Europe is taking a huge number of refugees. America's commitment to date is very small by comparison.

She didn't say let them all in. She's said she's open to receiving refugees as long as the federal government provides more clarity on who they are allowing to enter the country.

Reject them, then you hopefully leave. This country is better without you or the refugees. Democrats are placing them predominately in states where they could possibly tip the scales in favor of democrats come election time. Democrats(and many Republicans) will give up our safety for political gain and people like KG are easy pawns because of some social stance(my guess with KG its homosexuality)

The United States is a country built on freedom, freedom for all people just not a select few.

Is there a risk? Yes, but there is a risk in doing anything that is difficult.

By the grace of God I was born in this great free country and I will defend the right of anyone from anywhere to come here legally.

Who said anything about "unvetted"? That's never been the plan of the federal government. It is one reason the U.S. had said that resettlement would take so long. And just stop the nonsense about Obama wanted to take everyone's guns. All you do is further reduce your credibility by claiming such nonsense.

What? That's crazy talk, they can't vote they aren't citizens and want be anytime soon.

This is a fair question. How do you vet Syrians? Who are you going to call to do background checks?

Huh?

So now these refugees are going to be able to vote in 2016?

Do you really believe this? Do you think anyone else does?

And how does your argument even make sense when you say Democrats AND some Republicans will do this for political gain? Are both parties trying to monopolize the always critical Syrian-American vote in the US (by the way, I am asking that sarcastically if you can't figure that out)?

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here KG, I agree it was simply wrong to intern Jap-American citizens during WWII. A more appropriate argument is that we didn't go to Japan and import 50,000 of their citizens into the US during wartime. If you remember we did allow about the same amount of Cuban refugees in under the Carter administration. That didn't go well. Cuba emptied their prisons and sent their scum over. made us look like dorks.

ok love your nationalistic approach

if you wanna bring in christian refugees who believe in our values thats cool

but muslems are a big fat NO

The same way you vet people from any other country who want to move here. Easy? No. And that is why the numbers will be so low and the time it will take to resettle will be a long time from today. But we will cross check them against intelligence reports.
