Nikki Haley says she will not block Syrian refugees.....

Ok, so you said they are being put in almost every state. So 10,000 refugees split between almost 50 states and then many cities within those states means what? About 200 Syrians per STATE. So, Greenville gets 10? Columbia gets 15?

Is this how the Islamic people create an American caliphate?

I'm serious here. Does the governor of Alabama really think his people are safer now or is he appealing to Xenophobia?

Somehow posted without my comment. The issue is they are not being spread out 10-15 in a city. They are placing 100-200 in specific cities. They have already distributed refugees across the country already, with a pledge to take in 10K this year and another 85K more next year, this is just an expansion of what we have already done.

The key here is 1) they threatened Paris and attacked 2) they have threatened the US and specifically DC 3) they are using the refugee situation to bring in terrorists. They have a plan and to ignore it borders on moronic.

As far as you comment about an American Caliphate, I don't expect it to happen if at all , but then again Paris and other European cities didn't think they would have no-go zones either 5+ years ago.
You make the false argument using Japanese internment (the guilt card ). This is different, these are not Syrians who have lived in the US for years being rounded up. These are "Syrians" ( my guess is they are coming from a lot of different countries) , who are "running" from their place of origin or alternatively running to Europe and the West to attack it's way of life. You also think anyone calling for a pause until we sort it out is Xenophobic, but then again, let's not just call others names and attack them (the bigot card).

Most on here don't mind legal immigration, but what we really want is to know who they are, to come here through legal channels and to have reasonable limits on such immigration.

Please explain how this is bigotry. I'm pretty sure this has more to do with finding out that at least one Syrian refugee may have helped with the attacks. I wonder if France will open their arms to more of these refugees in the future. If they don't are they also bigots?

... I've read alot of your comments on here and I'm pretty sure there's not even a point of me trying. Just know that not everyone agrees with your opinion here.

Boo, hiss, you embarrass me Niki...

I have lived in Fla since 1980, but grew up in SC and still consider myself tied to the state. I get more disgusted by politicians by the day.

I know. WE will vet them the same way WE vetted the Refugees from the Mexican border that were put on buses and taken to cities all over YEAH RIGHT!

My respect for Gov. Haley continues to increase.

You guys would have been real strong proponents of FDR putting Japanese Americans into concentration camps during WWII because "we couldn't trust Japs."

99 percent of the refugees are fleeing this type of terrorism. Many are Christian.

Some of the terrorists were apparently from Belgium. Do we turn away anyone from Belgium who wants to visit the U.S. or just the dark-skinned ones?

Where do you draw the line so you can be 100 percent safe?

Arbitrarily blocking any and all refugees is not the answer and doesn't represent the kind of nation I want to live in.

OK, let the Christians in and send all the Muslims to one place in a cage so we can watch them.

Just ban the Muslims who cannot prove beyond doubt they are not radical Islamist.

Let the extreme profiling begin. They have made the rules, we need to play the game to win.

Not trying to be a dick but why call people on here bigots and then not take the time to explain why?

Unfortunately it's only going to get worse in this country and we will elect Hillary - a woman who can't even manage her own husband.

Blaming a wife for a husband cheating is ridiculous. I guess if a guy cheats and catches an STD and then gives it to his wife it is the wife's fault in your world?

This is a fair question. How do you vet Syrians? Who are you going to call to do background checks?

Hopefully, there is a process for our anti-terror agencies to determine if any of those folks have any known ties to terrorist organizations.

Oh, my bad. I forgot, we are talking about a government in the hands of a Muslim, who seems to care little about defeating other Muslims.

Huh?

So now these refugees are going to be able to vote in 2016?

Do you really believe this? Do you think anyone else does?

And how does your argument even make sense when you say Democrats AND some Republicans will do this for political gain? Are both parties trying to monopolize the always critical Syrian-American vote in the US (by the way, I am asking that sarcastically if you can't figure that out)?

We let Cuban refugees in and they vote heavy republican once they got the right to vote.

I mean if its not apparent to you then that proves my point on just being too far apart.

FWIW I've never liked message board debates because I don't think they are effective platforms for this kind of thing, people abuse the anonymity and just end up being crass and hyperbolic.

ok love your nationalistic approach

if you wanna bring in christian refugees who believe in our values thats cool

but muslems are a big fat NO

What if they are moderate or liberal Christians ? Can they come in or only Evangelical Christians. btw, it is Muslim.

I really see your point there. Guess im just a bigot. Thanks for pointing that out and not providing any feedback as to why I am a bigot. I sure wish you would mister I just seem to be to stupid to figure it out.

I agree with you partly, but I think her goals are bigger than VP. 100% chance she runs for president in 2024, if not 2020.
I'd gladly vote for her...her courage to make 'unpopular' decisions is impressive.

The stuff I'm seeing says she is against it and that no refugees are planned to come to SC at this time.

Your source for this information?

Per multiple news outlets, Haley has now backed off that and says SC will not accept Syrian refugees.

Good. There's no reason for one single state to accept one of them. Go somewhere else, and if none of you agree with not accepting them, go to the nearest mountain and jump off the side of it.

if the federal government chooses to spend federal relocation dollars on a particular refugee's settlement anywhere in the country, there is nothing the states can do to stop that. If barack obama wants to send 45 refugees to Clemson, he has the legal authority to do so.

So i just read through this entire thread, just trying to get a feel for how some of yall feel about this situation. Ok so here's my two cents.
I live in columbia, so really the only fear i have here of attacks would be from a bigger country attacking ft jackson. I think the biggest worry i have right now is that we are seeing the beginning of terrorist goals coming to fruition. The entire goal of terrorism is to ignite fear in the hearts and minds of their enemies. Let's face it, ISIS isn't gonna invade and take over the US. However, they can cripple us economically and spiritually. I use the word "spiritually" and not "religiously" because they are attacking the american spirit. First, we are now so terrified that some refugees may end up being terrorist that we deny them sanctuary? We give up on kindness and generosity because it is no longer convenient? Most people on this board profess to be christians. Does God tell you that you should only care for your neighbor when it's ok with you? I'm pretty sure i've never seen that part of the bible. Do i have utter confidence in our government in the way they are handling things? absolutely not. do i think we as a country should show the world that we do not live in fear and the actions of some morons on the other side of the world won't make us forget what charity and compassion are? emphatically yes

You for the Syrian refugee movement?

Cheers to your Governor. I have not been a Gov. Haley fan but this was a class act decision and not to feed the fear mongering.

Because he has the authority does not mean it is good judgement. As far as being a xenophobe i suggest that slowing it down, clearly establishing who they are and being cautious is prudence not xenophobia. But then again it is easy to squelch opposition by calling others bigots.

I am not voting that garbage. She is terrible
She's not running for VP shat. She wants Graham's seat in the Senate. If the Rebubs win Graham's getting a cushy post and Haley is going for his old seat.

I don't really mind Haley, but she looked pretty stupid on this refugee thing. "We'll take them, put them in Spartanburg (lol). Oh, no, wait, the entire rest of the south has said no, I finally talked to someone, so, now the answer is 'no.'"

Do you think 10,000 Syrians coming into the US will persuade Americans to give up 225+ years of our way of justice to adopt Sharia Law?

I mean, really, c'mon. If you want to have an honest and intellectual discussion don't go suggesting that Sharia Law is just around the corner. Back in the day, John Birchers saw a communist behind every tree. They were wrong too.
That's 10,000 per MONTH and Americans just voted in the first majority Muslim city council in Michigan. Now, what's so far fetched about his original statement?

why not

where in the constitution does it state specifically a state has to allow a refugee by executive office from president enter state?

For the same reason they don't stop you or me at the border. Personally, I think we should make immigration to the US a whole lot harder to do. We should be solving our own problems first before we start letting in more problems looking for a handout.

You should read the thread. She backed off of that as she should have.

But yeah a woman who stays with a man who cheats nonstop for the entire relationship is questionable

im an actual american citizen tho

ive never said anything about reatricting their freedoms or there travel

the world is a huge place find somewhere not close to people i love and i will support their freedom to go there

then the pickens county sherriff should pick them up. like andy griffith and escort them to the county line

good question

if they are clemson fans then they all are welcome regardless of religion

but dont you come over here and start mouthing off your religion is the top dawg

all religions are equal, none can claim closer to creator

closeness to our creator is an individual pursuit

So, knowing we are not importing evil, which ISIS clearly is somehow makes me " a hypocritic Christian" is a real leap. I suggest we send aid to the camps in kurdistan, which have been abandoned by the NGO's because they were to close to the front lines. How about sending aid to the Kurds to protect themselves instead of just randomly bringing in "refugees".

I wonder how many of you have given to such causes? Easier to say the goverment should do it. Take action and show compassion on your own.

Our goverment should provide security first and compassion after.

No. No it isn't 10000 a month. It's 10k this fiscal year with no official commitment yet for next fiscal year.
