So, grew up in Anderson did all the standard southern Baptist stuff till I was 18 then left for the military. I believe a large part of it. (Wife grew up in the northeast not religious but complied.) now we have kids that visit SC every year to see my mom and dad. My parents started talking about angels mating with human women and this whole conspiracy to stop the seed of Christ a few years ago. I mostly ignored it. These last few years they have talked about this 3 year old that claims he went to heaven and how he is basically a prophet of the lord. I’m like “A 3 year old?” Really? God chose a 3 year old to bring us the message? Big issue is they are telling my children this is true and I’m not sure I’m ok with that. Wife hates it.
If you believe in this I don’t want to hear your opinion...
I only want to hear from other guys who have had similar issues with families in the local southern Baptist community that moved away and had to cope with evolving beliefs. How do you handle these issues with your families?

Grow balls and tell your parents to knock it off.
That’s basically what my wife said. Its hard though. Went to church 3 times a week for 18 years. Sister is a missionary. Brother in law is a preacher. Difficult conversation. Seriously should I just rip the bandaid?

I’ve attended a Baptist church for 40 years and have never heard anything crazy like that.
I don’t know bro. That’s what had me concerned. I lived in one for 18 years and never heard anything like what’s been coming out of them for the past 5. You haven’t heard anything like this in your local church?

I think it’s important for you and your family to forge your own religious path forward and build your own foundation.

I grew up Lutheran with a peppering of Fire and Brimstone Baptist. My wife grew up Presbyterian. After we got married, we tried Lutheran, Presbyterian, Baptist, and Methodist Churches. None really hit home ...

two years ago, a friend of ours invited us to their non-denominational service. I can’t even put into words how much I love this church and how it has impacted us ...

I say this because ... if you dont have a foundation that your kids can build their faith on, they can be led astray.

But I also agree with @Superica28 ... you need to tell your parents to back F off with that ...

Are you concerned about your children being taught this specific belief By your grandparents or being taught christian beliefs in general? I mean, is the idea that a 3 year old went to heaven and is now a prophet really that far fetched relative to the idea that a guy was born of a virgin and rose from the dead after three days? One seems just as likely to have happened as the other.

I attend, now, and have attended a Baptist church for over 40 years. I have never heard of any of this. Are we being trolled?

What church do they attend? 48 years of Southern Baptist doctrine and this is a new one for me.

Don't pay ANY attention to this football ahtlete and analysis beyond that.

The biggest issue is hour parents aren't being taught out of the Bible.

All of your family should seek out a Bible believing church.

Heck, read through the Gosples yourself (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John).
Dude, they have been going to
The same church for 40 years. New Prospect in Anderson. I know the Bible pretty well. I moved away awhile ago and it seems like things are kinda different now... i don’t know man. My wife is pretty upset my children are asking about this 3 year old that went to heaven? I feel like this isn’t the church I grew up in, and it’s certainly not anything I’ve heard of where I am now. Is this something that is prevalent in the area? Or are my parents just on their on program?

Absolutely not. Thankful to have a Pastor that preaches straight from God’s word The Bible.
What your saying sounds cult like.

I'm going to let you in on a little secret, but promise not to tell anybody
religion is a fairy tale

That’s fine, but are you ok with telling your parents that

That’s why I posted OT dude. Scroll past if you don’t have a comment.
wat?

My friend, I will spend hours online or on the phone with you.
Supply Biblical verifications and do whatever is necessary to help you.

Too many people in this world want a one word answer to questions that are beyond the scope of humans to understand.
It's not that easy. There are NO one word answers.

PM me if you like.
You're in a difficult position.
A CRITICAL position for your children AND your marriage.

What you are dealing with is evil.
EVIL.

Ignore it at you and your family's risk.

Well, I mean you make a good point... but believing in Jesus is a lot easier than believing in some random kid from Wisconsin or wherever he was from. I know God works in mysterious ways. But come on. A 3 year old? I can’t just believe everything and then expect my kids to do that to right? I’m not really looking for a religious conversation, just how do I approach this with a very religious family? I was hoping maybe someone on here had gone through that?

Not responding you directly, so take no offense.

It has NOTHING to do with any 'church' you go to.

The Bible is God's word, His message to us.
READ it.
Study it, read listen to gifted men than can help you understand it.

PRAY that you can garner more understanding.
It works.

We get too caught up in denominations for sure.

Seriously though, is this like a thing in the area? Or are my parents on their own program and crazy talking? Anyone heard of this stuff?

It’s called faith. It’s the most incredible thing in this world and I believe every morsel of it. I truly hope you find it one day.

Everybody willing to accept or decline behaviors that have been created by a new offshoots of Christianity because of various reasons. It’s “protest”ant for a reason.

However, when another emphasis is made, it’s easily attacked.

Peter build his church as Jesus asked..... since then, it’s ripped to shreds to those that don’t like the practice in numerous factions.

You either believe or don’t believe the nonsense anyone says. It’s up to you to choose what you believe in and then eradicate or promote as you see fit.

... one has a basis in scripture and one does not.

I’ll leave it up to you to determine which is which.

good troll though ;)

Y’all getting trolled out of your minds in this thread.
I’m not trolling anyone dude. Just looking for honest answers if anyone has dealt with this in their family. Thought it might be a common issue.

I don’t care what what you’re religious beliefs are. Just looking for if you actually went after it with your family and how to go about that without pissing your parents/wife off

I truly feel for you as this type of situation isn’t an easy one to deal with. I’m not Southern Baptist but family has now been in Anderson 40 years, and clearly, I’ve moved away. My parents religious beliefs have changed through the years to one that resembles putting their hands over their ears and going “La la la la—I can’t hear you”, whenever you bring up uncomfortable, yet very real issues with organized religion. You know, like child molesting priests. When they stuck their nose in one too many times when our 15 year old was about 3 or 4 I, as politely and firmly as possible, told them to stay out of the religious aspect of my child’s life. He was our child, not theirs and we would provide guidance in that, very personal area of OUR child’s life.
Did it piss them off? Yep, sure did. Still don’t regret doing it.
