OT: Vegas Shootings

I have no problem with a man making $5mil a year buying a lot of weapons and getting them into a hotel room. That's easy.

I'm a 52 year old engineer with no training. I can do all of that. The hardest part might be the window, but you could rig up a pullly system to hold the window and set it on the floor.

Yea I just want to know where he bought the guns and ammo. With the San Bernadino shooter, they eventually charged an accomplice who helped him acquire them. That's all I'm saying, want to see the details. Not that any of this couldn't have been done by one person. Almost all of it probably was. And maybe all of it.

Haha. Now Amy sounds like my stepson. He showed me that last night.

Everyone wants there to be a bogeyman hiding in the closet to explain this, than realizing what this was. A guy went bat shit insane and tried to take out as many people as he could.

Gun reform and mental health education are pressing issues that keep falling by the wayside, and they need to be at the forefront.

Yeah. They will figure all of that out. Eventually they will trace where/how he got all of the weapons. I read or heard earlier he had bought a couple of them and some ammo at a gun show a few months ago. He could have been buying guns for years. Not necessarily to do this, but acquiring a lot of guns is possible.

I thought I read somewhere that he acquired more than a dozen guns in a period of several months (don’t know quantities). As someone who doesn’t own weapons like that, it struck me odd that you could buy that many with waiting periods, etc.

Again, I don’t know how that works, it may be very easy and that’s the way it’s intended to be.

From day one, it felt to me like it was way too big of an operation for one person. How does one guy get 17 firearms up to a room by himself. firearms are heavy. I don't care who you are, carrying 17 of those into a hotel shouldn't go unnoticed. Even if you manage to fit 4-5 into a bag, that's still 4 very heavy bags for one guy. How does no one notice that some 60+ guy is carrying 4 very heavy bags into a hotel. And why does he shoot out of two windows instead of one? On top of all of it, how is there not any motive or incentive? Like even if the guy was crazy, generally it seems there would be some sort of ultimatum... I dunno. Maybe there's nothing behind all the mystery, but even the crazy person theory doesn't entirely add up. Both the brother and the girlfriend communicated that all of this came out of the blue, based on their intimate knowledge of who this guy was. Just seemed like it was way too much work for one person to carry out on their own.
because he was there 4 or 5 days. Go out to the van with one of those baggage dollies twice a day for 4 days. That's 100 lbs a trip. In a casino no one would notice. They will have video to show that. They know what luggage was in the room. They also could find video of someone else bringing in some of the bags. Both are possible. The've got 100's computer geeks pouring over all kinds of stuff right now.

Or maybe he had it all shipped to the hotel and the clerks stashed it somewhere and took it up to his room when he arrived. I've shipped hundreds of lbs of stuff to a hotel room for a tradeshow.

And judging by the size of that room and the room probably costing over $1000 a day, no one working there would give it a second thought.

You don't have to wait or be registered to buy any kind of gun (like those) at a gun show in SC. You could do it over several months, several years, or 1 weekend.

He lived in Nevada. Very easy to do that there.

What about ammunition? How does he carry in ammunition for 17 firearms, or enough ammunition to kill 60 and injure at least 400 more (500 total admitted to hospital, probably a decent number due to trampling).

But seriously, how many bags does one man need in Vegas if he's going golfing, gambling, and staying for the weekend? I count three bags total: two suitcases and one golf bag max. So he needs at least 4 bags to carry 17 semiautomatic firearms around, whether they are dismantled or not. Then on top of that, he has to carry in enough ammunition and he also had tripods and cameras set up... Not saying it's completely a conspiracy, but it just seems a little odd that the guy got 5-6+ heavy bags into a hotel room by himself, and planned all of this. It just seems odd that no one would check if the guy had a business conference or anything just as a background, and if he had those credentials in place, why did nobody report that?

It's vegas. No one is going to check his credentials. Alll they care about is his credit card. He could have carried stuff in over several days or had it shipped to his room.

Excellent point. Was it possible? Absolutely. Is it probable? I lean towards no.

I will say that I just got back from a trade show at Mandalay Bay. I stayed at the MGM Grand. Over the course of 4 days, I walked through the casino and convention center areas of MB rolling a travel golf club case sized piece of equipment at least 6 times. So could he have done it alone over the course of 3-4 days, certainly.

Where it falls apart for me is that absolutely no video footage of the guy has surfaced yet. I'm guessing that Homeland Security slapped some Patriot Act shit on Mandalay Bay management.
THey have video they are processing. No surprise that they haven't let it out to the media.

There's this new invention: Elevators
shoot, totally forgot. That's what brings this all together. My bad. The elevator is the one variable I ignored. Thank you for clearing this all up for me.

@Avanti, i figured you'd continue to participate. whered you go man? your input here could be invaluable.

will definitely revisit this thread multiple times tonight while watching football.

I have no idea the reasoning on anything. I'm not going to speculate on any conspiracy theory. Just seems odd to me that Paddock, with his background, carried this out alone. One small thing... don't know that it means anything. When I first heard story on news, said the police shot him. Then it was reported suicide.
I think this happens a lot. When something like this happens there is so much info coming from hundreds of different people and as it's all sorted out the story changes multiple times making it seem shady or covered up.

Question for you @amynhop. Why would there be a cover up and to what purpose? I can see if you were killing a specific person or something like that, but honestly who would cover up shooting up a country music event?

I don't see anything that this guy did that I couldn't have done EASILY. 800 lbs of equipment. That's 8 trips back and forth to the car over several hours (less if you borrowed a dolly from the front desk). With the butt stocks for the AR-15s, they are already in a easily broken down into a couple of 2 ft sections. Use blankets or some type of cloth to wrap metal equipment for silence. So equipment ... no problem.

I don't see the glass as a problem either. You can buy glass cutters anywhere. Home Depot would do. A few good quality suction cups and some rope to put reverse tension on the glass and it falls backinto the room. The glass is REALLY thick... I'd suspect that he cut most of the way through then shattered it with a hammer.

Pouring high powered nearly full automatic rifle fire into a nearly solid mass of people from 300 yards away? Child's play for a .223 round AR-15. Especially if he had something to prop on.

So while I have no info one way or the other, I am a big Occam fan...
I agree. There may have been more than one person but it is not crazy to think that something like this could easily be done by one person. A lot of people really over thinking how a person could get that up to a room unnoticed.

of course. rational people understand this. irrational people see this happen time and time again in these circumstances and use that as proof of a coverup/conspiracy. Its basically insanity.

Note to self : don’t pass off Facebook memes as original thought.

What did I pass off as original thought? I paraphrased. I have read several articles stating the same thing on those points and I think they are questionable too. I would have just posted the damn meme if it wasn't for some asshole telling me I posted too many memes a week ago.

Note to self : free country we live in and post what you damn well want and don't worry about the assholes on the TI board.

You should have posted the meme imo. And I’m not an asshole.

I'll never understand why any human being that disagrees with another would belittle those people and call them names on a message board.

I never start anything. I overlook a lot of insults and don't even reply. Not this time.

That’s an outright lie. You’re just as combative as any of us. It’s a message board. Relax.

You pull up one damn post where I initiate anything. JUST ONE. Dont you dare freaking call me a liar.

Well I don't have to check with anyone on what I post. Not sure why you felt the need to pile more on. Whatever.
If you read the thread I defended you at the start before it went off the rails. It’s no secret I don’t agree with you on much but in reality none of us know each other and this is all for entertainment. As I’ve said before quit taking it so personally.

I have posted multiple times that I will never understand some peoples need to insult others on a message board unprovoked. Even a stranger.

The most perplexing thing to me is the fact that no video from inside the hotel/casino has been released from a place where there's probably more cameras than people. I'm guessing it's got as much to do with possible legal liability as anything. The lawsuits will be forthcoming.

Well for one you participate in a lot of off topic threads and you’re highly opinionated. That leads to disagreements and threads go sideways. Yes people insult you and you insult them back. No big deal.

It will come out at some point. Probably still be reviewed by FBI. He was there for 72 hours so multiply that by 100s of cameras and that’s a lot of film to review. At some point if they see him with someone else and they don’t know who it is they show it. They also know every time someone entered the room because those electronic locks record that activity when a keycard is inserted. They can tell if it’s a housekeepers key guest key or managers key.

This. Time will telll if he had help or did it alone. Either is plausible.
