Some information out of NYC (not long)

So, because they all found new jobs in the government, you think they still did their old jobs?

yes. The pandemic team was not disbanded. Simply moved to another agency

The info is easy to find. Several articles on it.

2 news organizations even backtracked on their initial, wrong report.

There is the disconnect. Blaming one or the other. NYC said they were ready, clearly not the case (NYC health commish comments and Bill’s weeks before clearly idiotic). Federal govt said they were ready, wrong again. Media blames just one but both in the wrong. Now they are on the same side. People need quit bitching which one was right or wrong. SNAFU and move forward

You’re making my point .....there’s enough blame to go around and sitting here trying to blame one group isn’t productive. NYC is just as much to blame as the federal government but isolating one group isn’t worth it, particularly when many are culpable across the board

If people are blaming nyc for this then they should accept that the current administration is to blame for what’s going on nationally. Plain and simple

Now it shows. I knew you had an affinity towards the dramatic. You ultimately have shown your colors.

I’m sorry that I’m not sitting here ready to blame anyone and find blaming people a waste of time given there’s enough blame to go around on both sides. But it seems like that’s what you want to do, so go ahead.

You already did it.

Anyone know how many ventilators our country can produce a day?

That is a good question I haven’t seen addressed in the hours and hours of reading Ive done.

Apparently it is not very many.

Also seems like it is taking awhile for manufacturers to ramp up to begin making them (those who had to retrofit production facilities or those making new production lines)

There is an article that does have some numbers. Article is about Tesla re-opening one of their facilities in Buffalo. If you find the article - I believe I remember he was quoted as saying how many they could produce

I don't think anyone is completely to blame for anything. Honestly, i think it is too early to know if we have done enough or not at this point. However, I don't think The office of the President had a multitude of information that was being withheld from Mayors and Governors across the country. They were all free to make decisions about their states and cities, despite what was, or was not, being nationally.
Many keep saying it was obvious what was coming based on cdc and other stats months ago. If this were the case, why wait on a national directive, particularly in densely populated metropolitan areas like NYC. Nobody was stopping Governors from shutting things down earlier just like they are now. What is going on nationally, is only a collection of events happening locally(state by state).
Just for the record, I may disagree some with this particular post, but you have been very level headed and reasonable with your comments/assessments regarding this situation to date. Even when you disagree, you just present your case and never attack the other person, which is to be commended. Unfortunately, that has become more and more uncommon.

i agree that NYC could have done things differently and I’m sure they know this. There are so many layers to dissect when it comes to discussing what politicians could have done differently, but it’s tough to do that now when we’re in the thick of it - It seems that now everyone is all hands on deck to try and curtail this , and ultimately that’s what’s important.

No worries.... @BigTimeTiger , @jimbob1019 , and @Cocks are Number 1 said this is no big deal. Just the media blowing it out of proportion.
Trump just ordered GM to make ventilators. The company that was stolen from investors and given to the union during the last bail out. Trump basically said screw the negotiations you fvckers MUST make em at my price! The employee union that was given the company by Obama thought it was free! Nope! Karma Strikes!

PS the liberals in NYC could have shut it down on their own.

US death rate is barely 1.5% and as more people get tested it will drop even more.

Still only
430,895 Currently Infected Patients Worldwide
Out of 7,700,000,000 people worldwide.
That’s still only 0.007662% of the population

Over 100,000 cases in the U.S. now. COVID-19 doesn't give a shit who is to blame. I'm just looking for someone to lead us forward. You would think we could all agree that the a president shouldn’t be a dickhead at every turn, but I guess we can’t even agree on that.

Both were totally reckless in their rhetoric. One could have done something to change the rhetoric and got the country to take notice. I will let you guess who that person is.

And for the record @CUT93 - I wasn’t going out of my way to blame anyone. My point with that post that there’s enough blame to go around and you can’t isolate one part of the government without saying that there is some culpability in other aspects of the government - and that goes for both sides. I’ve defended the administration to those who want to put the full blame on the administration, and my response is always similar to the one above - you can’t put some of blame the administration without also placing some of the blame on governors etc. I think that’s a reasonable approach.

And thanks, my friend

This isn’t very encouraging -

Elmhurst hospital ran out of ventilators and borrowed some from Coney Island. Apparently they were some old school ventilators but worked.

Now NYU-Bellevue ran out of ventilators as well and are getting some from the city. Panels will be formed to set guidelines for who will get a ventilator and who won’t if this were to happen again.
Unreal that this is happening in America
Here's hoping we see our mistakes sending most of our essential manufacturing base products out of country
and reaping dire consequences in short term, long term the USA has an opportunity to return all essential manufacturing
products too dependable USA home grown companies.

the people that support the President (any President- most recent ones are examples), dont really care how they act

the people that dont support the President wouldn’t care if he cured cancer - they still wont like him

Tribalism wont go away. In fact it gets worse in times like these

Trump basically said screw the negotiations you fvckers MUST make em at my price! The employee union that was given the company by Obama (or so they thought, because the govt owns them) is now having to pay up. lol

You and I likely agree on many(but not all) policy matters, but it does absolutely no good post stuff with the tone and language of the large majority of your posts.(See my relpy to TigerEE91) This is largely what is wrong with the nation now. Just state the facts and let people draw their own conclusions.
I get furious about many things political as well, but if you want anyone who doesn't already agree with you to consider your stance, you can't sound like a raving lunatic.

I hate how difficult it is to know what’s true and what’s not these days.
Listen to NY and Ohio governor briefings if you want truth.

I thought they were sending a military hospital ship to NYC harbor? At least I thought I saw something like that.
My wife has a grad student who just got mobilized. His unit builds hospitals in 2 weeks.

Anyone got a read on well to do New Yorkers driving down to spend a few months somewhere in the less populated south? A short term rental pretty much anywhere in NC,SC, or Ga on the coast or in the mountains would be better than spending the next 30-60 days locked in an apartment in NYC.

Cuomo and Trump are pretty much on same page, with their comments etc. Cuomo today said he probably went overboard on some of the issues, AND also believes the economic aspect should be considered

But media praises one, crucifies the other.

People get tired of it. Hell, the media doesn’t even try to be balanced anymore

Nobody to blame but themselves for people not trusting them anymore

I think in the short term they are going to start hooking a lot more ventilators to 2 people if needed to increase capacity while they acquire more ventilators. I think as of a few days ago the federal government was sending them 2000-4000 so I assume they wouldn't have already brought them online in just 2 days. Again his biggest concern wasn't this week but in the coming weeks as cases continue to increase. He also said that sadly they have had many people on ventilators for over 2 weeks that will be passing soon as they have been on ventilators too long and had little to no chance of recovery. Said that is why their number of deaths was starting to jump

I guess that someone who sees the name "Oxiris" and gets this mental image:

Has some serious problems?

It is coming from the Va Beach area. Will take a while to get there. Will not treat COVID-19 patients on board.

President should use his powers to order manufacturers to produce PPE. It is criminal that states and the federal government are bidding against one another for N95 masks and other PPE. Criminal! The federal government should be the one doing the procurring and shipping to where they are needed the most. The administration has screwed up this situation from the get-go.

Not sure if anyone replied in the next four pages or not, but here is the deal with the Comfort. They had to rush her out of dry dock in Norfolk to get her ready. Currently they are doing emergency dredging in NY to accommodate her draft. Permits that take weeks or likely months got turned around in 12 hours.

Apparently Trump is going to Norfolk to see her departure, but a quote I just saw was very vague about when she would arrive in NY. Thats odd because it's likely only 300 nautical miles from A to B. If she can make even 15 kts, well you can do the math. I suspect Trump wanted to use it for a photo/twitter op (any president probably would) for Saturday.

Anyway, glad to see she is heading north soon. I hope she won't have to sit on the hook long before getting a berth.

19 million people in 300 square miles

people can argue with me all they want but I’ve been saying this for 20 years.

1. Overpopulation
2. Mass Telecommunication

will be the demise of society

And yes, mass communication because having instantaneous and/or perceived instant information and the notion to act immediately or failure to act immediately will result in poor decision making or over reaction.

Whether you like it or not, life is a giant chess match. Choosing to live in NYC has incredible advantages and disadvantages. You sign up for it when you CHOOSE to live there.

It’s not that I don’t have empathy but WE CANNOT react to every SHORTED decision society fails to make.

Do the best we can supporting NYC and quit making too many babies. That’s the real virus.

Earlier today I read that the medical boat wasn’t expecting to be in place and operational until mid-April

I consider your posts to be like the dispatches of Ernie Pyle in WWII. You are on the front lines and report what you see and hear.
