There's a whole lot of info out there that suggests otherwise.Right. AM is a sleazeball, but he isn't an idiot. Most of that $$$ is in an offshore bank.

I could not disagree more. Since I first learned AM’s name he has repeatedly been revealed as a sleazball and an idiot. Dead son, dead wife, fired from the family firm that he destroyed, caught sloppily stealing enough money from enough different people, his best possible outcome now is a life in jail. He is the biggest Palmetto state native idiot I ever heard about.Right. AM is a sleazeball, but he isn't an idiot. Most of that $$$ is in an offshore bank.
It was more than 4 families and these are folks that live in the poorest part of our state. I can totally see how he did it without anyone questioning it. Most of the clients are poor and uneducated in the ways of the law, the legal system and personal injury settlements. They didn’t know the questions to ask like, “let me see the settlement agreement” or “let me see the judgement”. They didn’t know they could go to the courthouse and get a copy of all the related documents. He preyed on his clients who sadly didn’t know enough to question him they put their trust in him and he burned them.It is shocking at least to me that he stole large sums from 4 families and it never came to light. No one files a bar complaint. Nothing happened it appears.
Of course it was more than 4 families. The latest charges are based on 4 families though. It was more than 4 families and these are folks that live in the poorest part of our state. On another note the true bill states he took these funds and paid business associates, family members, himself his credit card bill and a car dealership. They didn’t name anyone but I suspect either more indictments will come or those folks are cooperating to save their own asses. There are way more people than AM that knew this was going on. I hope they burn them all.
Not only that, they likely looked up to him and his family in a sense. Probably felt they were getting presidential treatment that “someone as great as AM would help me out.” Like AM was their leader and golden boy. Sickening. It was more than 4 families and these are folks that live in the poorest part of our state. I can totally see how he did it without anyone questioning it. Ignorance of the law runs deep. It’s also tough at times to find another lawyer to go against one of their own. No offense to any lawyers who may see this but there is a sort of brotherhood between some that I’ve personally witnessed, especially in smaller townsIt is shocking at least to me that he stole large sums from 4 families and it never came to light. I don’t know man. With behavior as erratic and arrogant as his. Im doubting he thought that far ahead. Maybe so.Right. AM is a sleazeball, but he isn't an idiot. Most of that $$$ is in an offshore bank.
Yep. I think he kept robbing Peter to pay Paul. I bet he was behind on a lot of stuff and just kept getting deeper. Money can go fast when you don't care what it costs to get out of a fix, just to get into another.I don’t know man. With behavior as erratic and arrogant as his. Agreed Lafffitte is 100% in CYA mode. His actions could potentially cause his relations to lose control of the bank or the bank could be closed completely. Lack of institutional control in addition to (likely) BSA and AML violations is enough to have PSB put into receivership. Its hard to argue the board had adequate control when the bank was participating in the fraud. Would be shocked if they come out completely unscathed with 2 senior execs being caught in this. It doesn’t surprise me that the majority of the board and almost all of the owners share the same last name as the CEO.Wonder how many former friends and colleagues have something to share with law enforcement? Hiring Nelson Mullins arms one for the battle of self preservation, but you have to have info of value to leverage with law enforcement.
"The fired-CEO of a Hampton bank who oversaw cases in which Alex Murdaugh allegedly stole millions from clients said he has been cooperating with law enforcement “since the outset of the investigation” and has retained lawyers. Attorneys for Russell Laffitte, fired as CEO of Palmetto State Bank on Jan. 7, released a statement Thursday afternoon, a week after Murdaugh was indicted on charges that he stole money from clients in cases involving Laffitte as legal representative."
“Contrary to published reports, Mr. Laffitte has been fully cooperating with authorities since the outset of the investigation and will continue cooperating,” according to the statement from Laffitte’s new lawyers, Matt Austin and Bart Daniel, of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Charleston."

I can't find names of BOD. You have a link to share? Or can you list them?Agreed Lafffitte is 100% in CYA mode. Try this link and see page 6 of the document. This is their 2020 filing with the Richmond fed. 2021 final financials aren’t due to the regulatory bodies until tomorrow. Their is a holding company, Palmetto State Bankshares, that “owns” the bank. This is the common setup for banks.I can't find names of BOD. You have a link to share? Or can you list them?
I saw that but being based in Laurens I figured it was wrong...and not many Lafittes on what I saw originally. Thanks for sharing.Try this link and see page 6 of the document. Makes sense. Palmetto Bancshares I think was Laurens but that what comes on my Google machine when I type in Palmetto State BankPalmetto Bank (Laurens) and Palmetto State Bank (Hampton) are different companies.
I live in Tucson but was born and raised in SC (Orangeburg and Lugoff). I have not kept up with this. What is the best podcast to follow on this? TIA!!Makes sense. Palmetto Bancshares I think was Laurens but that what comes on my Google machine when I type in Palmetto State Bank

Palmetto Bankshares is in Laurens. The link I shared was for Palmetto State Bankshares in Hampton. That is the report for PSB’s holding company. Lots of Laffitte and Laffitte associates on that list.Makes sense. Palmetto Bancshares I think was Laurens but that what comes on my Google machine when I type in Palmetto State Bank

Folks rubbed off on her.Matney and her podcast went from being journalism to “look at me.” I forgive her because she’s young and hasn’t matured, but she’s gotten to the point that she’s unbearable. She and her cohorts have made this all about themselves.
That isnt enough time...We've covered potential crimes and now for potential punishment (likely sentencing would be concurrent and not consecutive, but very illustrative of the magnitude if proven guilty of alleged crimes):
As of Jan. 31, Murdaugh is facing 71 criminal charges from S.C. State Grand Jury indictments in November, December and January, following three initial charges from local indictments by a Hampton County Grand Jury.
If the maximum prison sentences for all of Murdaugh's criminal charges were added consecutively, it would equal more than seven centuries of incarceration, if he were found guilty of all charges.
"This would be a grand total of 74 counts for a maximum potential term of incarceration of 731 years, notwithstanding potential sentencing enhancements," said Robert Kittle, spokesperson for the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
Alex Murdaugh's 74 criminal charges add up, in theory, to 731 years of incarceration

I think she watched Dexter: New Blood and is trying to mimic the podcaster on that show.Matney and her podcast went from being journalism to “look at me.” I forgive her because she’s young and hasn’t matured, but she’s gotten to the point that she’s unbearable. The DA or someone(maybe the blogger) said a week or two ago that they had definitive forensic evidence tying Murdaugh to the murders of his wife & son. Probably a few pages back ITT.I followed this all closely when the murders first happened and then for a couple months after, but not much outside of this thread since. Has there been any news/rumors lately on the Maggie and Paul murders?
Don’t worry, the feds haven’t levied any charges yet. That isnt enough time...
