I listened to the jurors this morning -- it was the fourth panel, and they were given instructions to come back tomorrow morning.
There's not a lot of substance here as the judge goes through the litany of determining if anyone has a valid personal reason to be excused or if anyone has any bases for bias (knows one of the parties, knows one of the witnesses, etc.).
I think they may argue some of the pretrial motions this afternoon. Not sure if the audio feed will be on for that.

His other son wasn't there, and he had not been in trouble like the one he killed.

I’ve followed along early, but stopped once he was finally arrested so haven’t seen anything since.

Serious question. Why does everyone assume he killed both? Just seems to be some dots that are hard to connect in that story.
Why would he use two different weapons? Why would he kill them on his own property and not try to cover it up? Plenty of places in that part of the world to hide bodies.
I feel like it’s plausible that he owed someone bad a bunch of money or at the very least he was being blackmailed. Why else would he steal so much money is such a way he had to know would get him caught one day? Just smells of desperation in my opinion.

I don't know if it was planned. One theory is his wife was filing for divorce and that was going to bring up all of his financial shenanigans and the son was just a casualty. Or the son was the target because of all of his legal trouble, and the wife was a casualty. It's going to be an interesting trial. Hell, if I thought I could get in I'd drive down there to watch a couple days when they start the prosecution.
I guess you could argue the son killed his mom and Alex killed him because of it.
But I assume they have evidence that he had blood spatter from both victims on his shirt. I'm sure they can tell with DNA. If the son had splatter from killing his mom and Alex only had spatter from killing his son, they should know either way from the evidence.
You gotta be kidding me here. I thought they already disclosed it was a long rifle and a shotgun. That was just the forensics evidence for the shot impacts?

Only way that makes sense to me is if he is scared they will kill the other son. Otherwise I can't see him taking the blame and spending the rest of his life in prison for something he didn't do.
I guess that was from ballistics and the shells found. But they said none of the guns were recovered. So evidently Alex took them somewhere or someone else took them somewhere. You could argue that means all kinds of different things, but if he had blood spatter on his shirt, then he was on the scene, and I imagine that could tell if he was the shooter or just someone standing nearby.
If someone killed your wife and son I imagine they’d be a threat to kill the other
I believe it has been reported as an AR15 and a shotgun. Definitely not two weapons you’d think one person would carry at one time to kill his wife and son
It’s going to be tough to provide a motive that satisfies the jury for killing the boy. But if evidence is available for Alex shooting him then motive is secondary. The SnapChat video must be a convincer for showing Alex’s frame of mind prior to Paul being shot.
The problem for Alex is that his actions surrounding the deaths are suspicious. He’s changed his story on his alibi a few times since the murders. The type of guns used in the murder are missing from his home. The shotgun shells at the scene matched other shells on the property. He doesn’t sound distraught on the 911 call until the operator connects to the line. There was a very limited time, maybe a month, when a reward was offered for info on the murders. Who does that when someone has killed 1/2 your immediate family? I don’t know just seems to be a few too many red flags.

Judge Newman has ruled the ballistics witnesses will be allowed as part of Alex Murdaugh’s murder trial. This came after a lengthy testimony. Court will go to recess until 11am tomorrow when the final jury selection process is expected to begin.

Theory: Alex lured Maggie there and didn’t expect to see Paul who dropped by to check on his friend’s dog.
Alex “accidentally” (true accident, or on purpose hoping it would look like a accident, I don’t know) shot Paul 1x, realized the extent of what he did then shot him again to “fix” it, and dropped the shotgun.
Picked up a rifle (AR) to follow Maggie as she ran out knowing he needed to eliminate witnesses, (she was potentially his target anyway), which is why he stood over her for the execution shot.
Everything he’s done is based on cover up or entitlement. I believe in his twisted way, this was a quick solution to stop the financial investigations that were bearing down on him.

most damning evidence that I learned in last week was that Alex asked wife to meet him at Moselle to go see his dad when she was at beach and could have met him at hospital

The theory on the guns is that they are buried with his father who died within a day or two of the murders. His body laid in mourning at home for a few days and the casket was never reopened before he was buried.
I keep hearing stuff like this. I am born and raised in SC with lots of family. I had never heard of these folks until this crime. They were nobody’s.

This is what I think happened. I don’t think he realized Paul would be there. Paul was checking on his friend’s dog that was being kept in the kennels. No way Alex knew what time he would be at the kennels. Or he may have killed Maggie first and Paul was a witness, so he had to get rid of him. - Mrs. Shove
