My Personal China Virus (Covid) Experience

I'm 40, wife 37, son 11, daughter 8, daughter 6 and a 3rd daughter that is 3. We all had it. Took 1 week to run through us all. Daughter 8 was first and I was last. Both of us tested positive and she tested positive twice. She threw up 1 time and had a headache. She was ready to play 2 days later. No kids had symptoms longer than 2 days. Temps for all of us never reach 101.

I will say my energy was down an entire week after I had a fever. I still worked in my garage on the weekend and never missed work. 3 weeks now clear according to CDC guidelines and I still cannot smell.

CDC DID contact me when my daughter tested positive. I gave 2 contacts of friends that kinda came in contact with her. No one contacted me when I tested positive.

Other than that, all good. Kids started school today!
Had it in June along with the wife and kids. Wife (35) was sick for 36 hours or so with a mild fever and cough and fatigue. Kids had no symptoms (8 and 4). I had a headache one day and lost my sense of smell - which is still not back two months later.

I think shutting anything down for this disease is and was idiotic. And I'm very much a liberal. i thought that before we caught it, and I'll think that way into the future. Unfortunately, the precedent has been set, and our lives are forever altered for the worse by the decisions of the few who couldn't see the consequences.

I've made several posts since March as to my personal thoughts regarding the nation's overreaction to this pandemic and the costs of shutting down the economy versus real health risks. My wife and I have all along been poster kids for the "coronavirus doesn't scare us" position. We wear masks only as required to enter certain stores and never anywhere else. We think people driving down the road with masks on look like complete morons. We've attended numerous parties since March, dined and danced wherever possible, and even vacationed last month in Mexico.

But the Covid rascal finally caught up with us in Mexico. Immediately upon returning home we began to experience weird symptoms and went to see our physician. Bingo -- we were Covid positive! I want to say up front that I'm not promoting our lifestyle as something others should emulate. The disease is real and we actually have a 71-year old family member who died of complications due to it back in June. But folks, the guy had been sick with lung disease for over 20 years. My mother is 85 and lives with heart issues. I've not been closer to her than 6'-8' in 5 months. That's only appropriate considering her higher odds of risking death if infected. So I understand and care about at risk people getting sick.

Our experience over the last 30 days included nausea, headaches and serious fatigue. But there were no bouts of fever or coughing for either of us. We're in decent shape (she's a flat out hottie but nope I can't post a pic) and in our 60's. I don't wish Covid on anyone but it's not terrible either. Frankly the degree of discomfort over 2 weeks time was worth it to now be able to say we've experienced it and likely built up antibodies for life.

I realize this disease has killed thousands. And yes occasionally healthy people are hospitalized. But that's very rare regardless of what the media tells you. We went though it and can honestly say it's effects were easier to handle than the common flu. Why would college kids and even younger children stay at home scared shitless about the perceived risk? Their mental health is suffering folks, not to mention their checkbooks. Sure you can search and find a special situation where sadly someone died. But damn, that happens even with lightning strikes once and awhile. Imo the world doesn't need to go full retard and shut down like it's leprosy or the black plague.

One more interesting point. We know over a dozen people who have tested positive. NOT ONE OF THEM has been called by anyone associated with DHEC, CDC, etc. There has been ZERO contact tracing or questionnaires filled out by any of us. What does that tell you? While the government hyped up the official position that follow/up was critical back in the early days, now it's not even mentioned! Were this Ebola level contagious, don't you think we'd have been monitored more closely?

If you're uncomfortable with the risks, then by all means stay home! You'll look ridiculous with a mask on at a restaurant! I don't begrudge you for feeling differently -- but why call us irresponsible because we disagree? Last I heard this is still a free America. I won't be wearing a mask at a Clemson football game unless it's simply for the minute it takes to get through gate security. My conscience is at ease that I'll not infect others -- and I'm happily blessed to have caught the virus and never changed much about my life along the way.

What do you mean by “weird symptoms “?
Glad you’re good now.

Rick...It's the media. They lie like bedbugs. You guys are active and vibrant with a passion for healthy living. I don't see 75% living as healthily as you guys. THAT'S the difference. I keep El and myself away from situations due to HER health. She's worth all the hassle....and then some. Hope we can get together over the next 9 weeks.

My wife said that since she is raising 3 boys (she includes me in that number) and we've all been either remote learning, summer vacation or work from home since March, she wants COVID just so she'd lose her sense of smell.

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but I'm optimistic about BB's future. The uptick in recruiting wasn't on my radar. I'll never be as sold as you or CUPlayer, but I'm warming up for sure.

Excellence Riviera Maya Resort south of Cancun. The rule in their province limits occupancy to 30%, though most returning guests told us the resort was more likely about 60% full the week we were there. There is no protocol at US or Mexican airports re testing. At the hotel entrance, our temperature was checked. Being 99 degrees or below got you into the resort with no questions asked. Absolutely every worker there wore masks 100% of the time. I saw rooms being washed down between guest' arrivals. But as guests we were free to practice whatever distancing and mask wearing we desired. I'd say less than 10% of guests practiced any distancing / mask policy at all.
I recently went to Cabo and my experience was more or less the same. Temp checked at the airport, before getting in the shuttle, and again at the resort. All employees wore masks, we were supposed when walking around the resort but out at the beach, pool, spa (once on the table/station), wherever you were going it wasn't required once you were there. I'd guess the resort was 50% full.

Good stuff . Glad your immune system punked the China virus.
Thanks brother. A lot of the meds I use lower my immune system so I had to stop that during the time. New Years Eve 17-18 my doctors gave me a shot of meds and didn’t know I had pneumonia at the time. It turned my immune system “off” and just about killed me. The sickest I’d ever been in my life, so sick to where I went ahead a few months later and set up my will etc. So when I heard I was positive I thought there was a chance I would die or at least be hospitalized from this, it was some scary $h!t.

My guess is that if you (we) are allowed into a game, you will be promptly escorted out if you remove your mask...

i wouldn't bet on it. You think they are going to have you sit in a stadium when it is 90 F or hotter for 4 hours and not drink? Do you drink through a mask?

Are you watching the fan requirements coming from the SEC

  1. I am glad all of you that had it came through ok, but I will do anything to keep it away from my family. I sit with a sister in law bedridden with MS, and can't take a chance with her. So I have to be extra cautious! She would never survive it !

Are you watching the fan requirements coming from the SEC

Yes and some are saying as long as you are physically distanced from those not in your party, you don’t have to ware a mask.

Hey man, I'm not trying to convince you of anything. For me, the last three paragraphs were political.

My wish is that the board move away from the politics which almost always lead to vituperation. I was hoping start of camp would ease that, but I guess not.

OP had a great story to share and I simply believe it should/could have stood on its own merit. That is all.

Agree to disagree on what constitutes a political post.

hang in there. I hope you have a speedy and full recovery!

My entire house had it.

Myself, wife, 4.5 year old, 3 year old and 7month old.

I had a night of fever lost taste for 4 days.

4.5 had a runny nose and loss of appetite for 1 day

3 year old ran a low grade fever 1 afternoon

Wife and 7 month old got pink eye for about 10 days. Wife lost her taste and has been without it for about 3 weeks

Great question.

High dose Vitamin C, Zinc and Melatonin. We try to avoid OTC fever/pain reducers when possible along w antibiotics. We probably were taking in 2000- 3000mg of VitC a day min. I take 1000mg a day always and kids 500mg. I am taking Zinc big time now to try and get my smell back.

We think that the body is built to fight for itself so the rise in temp is part of that fight. Now if the temps started to get to 102 or something, then we may have decided to go w the tylenol or motrin for help. We didnt set an exact temp for OTC but early we saw the symptoms not being bad enough to go that route.

I'd like to hear this explanation, especially since I'm in Cabo now.
I was there just two 3 weeks ago my man! Loved it!. Went to the new place The Rooftop. Liked the view. That's what you're paying for. We were there before any night club ish vibes started so I don't know how that part is.

My parents are dead set on hitting their favorites: Romeo Y Julietta, The Italian Job, and Maria Jimenez. We always hit up those 3. I don't know why my parents love the Italian, it is very good, so much there.

Isn't that right? In all my years here you'd think all the Mexican joints would get the business but man those Italian places are outstanding. The wife and I had our first date at a great Italian place that has since shut down because of a divorce but the owner was straight from Italy.
Funny how the Italian joints have adopted the Caesar salad which makes people think it's an italian thing when actually it was invented in Tijuana albeit at Cardini's which is italian but the salad has only been around since the 20's not hundreds of years like a guy tried to tell me once. LOL

Sure thing. First, I was assured by our physician that I'm 100% free of covid and couldn't infect another person if I tried. Secondly, even if the first point wasn't true, I'd never purposely get near or touch another person at the game especially if I was coughing. And that was never a symptom with me.

It will be interesting to see if masks will be required in the stadium.

Maybe people that have had the virus can use a doctor's excuse to avoid wearing a mask in the stands?

I can't imagine the gates and under the stands not requiring a mask.

I am confident that there will be liberals, conservatives, and moderates (like me) that will stand in His judgment when that time comes. As for me, I'm trying to keep it simple by loving God and people (all of them). Now that we have that out of the way, what is the backstory on the "Cocks are Number 1" thing?

Lol.. you are completely correct.

I was a CuTigers member since it’s inception, even when Ard owned it, prior to Roy. I was “Kelboski” on that site. Much later, I enjoyed TI, too... so I created a name which would allow me to go over to FGF and browse without getting banned. Eventually, I said a bit too much.

my 4 kids, my wife and I all had it.

My kids had very little symptoms. They fully recovered within 24-36 hours.

My wife said it felt like a really bad cold to her but she also lost her sense of taste and smell. It took her about 7 days to feel better but we are now 4 weeks after that 7 day period and she still doesn’t have taste or smell.

it train wrecked me. Worst case of the flu I’ve ever had. Horrific body aches and sweats. No fever, nausea or cough. I lost smell. Literally 10 days lying in the bed sleeping ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT. 4 weeks out and I’m Just now getting back To normal.

with all that being said, it’s time that we as a country get back to living.

videos and pics from China indicate they are virtually 100% back to living.

I’m an Independent who votes nearly equally republican and Democrat. Sadly, Politics are completely dominating the US’s understanding of the virus.

I am happy you and your family are well and were not too badly affected. I agree with you. Trump made a mistake asking the country and economy to shut down. We will likely never understand the true economic cost of it.

Glad you’re good now.
For me it was the total loss of taste the first day. By the next evening it returned and hasn't changed since. I was looking for fever and coughing as obvious symptoms but that never happened. Everyone I've known has experienced different symptoms.

Did you happen to stay at Grand Solmar? CaboTiger's beautiful bride can hook you up with the best accommodations there. But the August heat is a bitch!

That's so true Johnny. K and I booked the RM trip for March and then Covid killed it. We moved it to April, then May, then finally the summer before airline travel allowed it. Tell your sweet bride we're coming back to Cabo soon though -- wish it could be in November as I remember that's a great time for the big fishing tourneys and Hagar's buddies playing downtown.

My peepee was 6.5 inches...I got Coronas and now it's 13 inches. I lost 25% of my lung capacity but gained 200% peepee capacity. I gave up cigars and call it a win-win.
