Southern Border Invasion

Doing nothing is insane. You don't need a bill to do anything. Biden needs to act now, but he is asleep at the wheel!
You keep saying that but keep ignoring that Mexico will not allow a new Remain in Mexico policy and Title 42 was used for COVID only and was in litigation before it ended and likely would have been overturned.

The Senate deal would give Biden statutory authority that could then be implemented by his successor.

The current border wall is yards back from the actual border so once you reach it, you're already on American soil and the laws allow for them to be processed throught the asylum system. Mike Johnson is playing dumb so he can make Biden look bad but I'm sure he understands the law.

But let's say Biden could issue an executive order. The border is still overwhelmed and doesn't have enough personnel to handle the influx we're seeing even if he did, but the new Senate bill appropriates the money for that as well as more agents and technology to stem the flow of fentanyl, and speeds up the deportation process for those who don't meet the criteria.

If Republicans don't like the bill, even though they had a hand in crafting it, they can make it more stringent if/when they take power. This waiting for a year bullshit for something that might not even happen is gross political gamesmanship, simply to ensure they are re-elected.

It's either an emergency or it's not and the American people are taking notice.

Gross political gamesmanship is stuffing $60B to Ukraine, $12B to Israel, $10B to Palestine, and then only $20B to your our own country among other things.

You want to get a bill passed? Write a better bill.

Yea, there’s a bunch of BS in the bill. Write a clean immigration bill without the other stuff. Write laws that go into effect immediately, not once a crazy number of encounters occur (and then with prescribed limits on how long restrictions can remain in place one the trigger is hit).

Totally overhaul asylum laws. Immediately. From the first human that walks across the border once the bill is signed.

I don’t get the Mexico won’t agree to the remain in Mexico policy argument. What are they going to do? Take their application on the other side of the gate and don’t let them pass until it’s approved. Let them slide it through a partition or something. Decline all not submitted at a designated port of entry. There’s a super easy way fix to this. But it requires a focused bill that specifically eliminates the nonsense creating the issue.

The Republicans are the ones attaching Ukraine funding to the bill, not the Democrats.

You do understand that the law would go into effect immediately if the bill was signed into law immediately don't you?

Stop being so hard-headed because you can't get exactly the language you'd prefer. If you're waiting on that, we'll never get a bill and the issue will just fester. And it only highlights that it's really not an emergency on your part if it requires them to go back to the drawing board.

Again, this is a BI-PARTISAN bill that they've been working on for four months.

If nothing else, you should listen to the border patrol, you know, the people at the tip of the spear...

Border Patrol Union Endorses Bipartisan Border Bill

As Trump and MAGA try to destroy the bill, those who actually work at the border are urging its quick passage.

"In a statement released by Brandon Judd, President of the National Border Patrol Council, the union called the bill a "step in the right direction and noted that while the bill is "not perfect," it is "far better than the status quo."

"Sinema, Lankford, and Murphy’s bipartisan package reasserts control of the border, protects border communities, disrupts the flow of fentanyl into the country, and solves the border crisis by ending catch and release, strengthening our asylum system by delivering determinations efficiently and fairly, enhancing security, and improving the legal immigration system," wrote Judd."

A lot of loop holes in this new bill. Even if the 5k per day is reached illegal immigrants are still let in by answering my life is in danger.
A B/S Bill written by B/S lobbyist. 400 million goes to lawyers.

the allowable numbers are just too damn high but …. this shit bill is the best it’s gonna get until Brandon is gone.

Joe created this mess …. It would piss me off as a Rep to vote for the stinking thing, but I would. Of course, I’m not a Trump supporter …. can’t stand the guy. The sooner he succumbs to his diet of KFC and Taco Bell the better we all will be ……

Doing nothing, so Agent Orange Ass*ole can play politics is maddening …..

No new law is needed Biden can control the border with the stroke of the pen : See Trump's policy
No matter what new law or policy that's passed the POTUS can override it with a executive order. See Biden's policy.

Well ya know he is never going to do that.

It’s better to mitigate some of this bullshit than what is going on now.

Republicans refused to support Ukraine funding unless the border was addressed. They were given what they asked for on a silver platter and then called the bill dead on arrival before they even read it. If they get their way, Ukraine will be over-run by their hero Putin and the issues at the border won't change - all in fealty to Mango Mussolini. The "Do Nothing" party has morphed into the "Do Harm" party.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) wrote. “They literally demanded specific policy, got it, and then killed it.”

Foreign affairs journalist Anne Applebaum reflected on the teetering national security measure and wrote: “People will die, today, because of the cynical game played by the American Republican party. Their irresponsibility is breathtaking.”

Foreign affairs specialist Tom Nichols of The Atlantic wrote: “Letting Ukraine fall because of [Republicans’] cultish loyalty to Trump will be a betrayal that will stain America forever—and probably end up pulling us into a fight for Europe later. This is one of the rare moments when the path to disaster is clearly marked and avoidable.”

Former representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) summed up the day’s crisis over the national security measure: “On Trump’s orders, Republicans in Congress are rejecting the border security deal. They’re also abandoning America’s allies in Ukraine. Trump and the [Republicans] are losing the war on purpose in an inexcusable betrayal that will strengthen America’s enemies for years to come.”

Yeah, lets listen to what Liz Cheney has to say. Brilliant idea.

Why not? By making a stand for what's right, instead of what's right for an insurrectionist president, she's a hell of a lot braver and more courageous than any other Republican politician. Wyoming has the highest percentage of maga voters in the country so she knew her stance could be costly but she did it anyway because she knows the country is more important than Trump. And deep down, you know that what she's saying is right.

I disagree with the Cheney's on 95% of the issues but I respect the hell out of them for standing up for our country over a corrupt, deranged politician who doesn't know the difference between right and wrong, only what's right for him.

So you disagree with them on 95% of positions but use them for your tiny little world view on one issue. Great logic.

My world view is that Donald Trump is the worst thing that's ever happened to this country and he keeps proving it every day. He hopes the economy crashes and hopes for continued chaos at the border because he thinks it's good for him politically. It's fine to disagree on policy but it's despicable to root for the country's downfall. Like most Americans, she recognizes the danger of that path. Weird that you don't.

Schumer is a fvking joke. No reason to connect Bill's together. Send this B/S Bill back to the Senate with a NO VOTE.
How many times do we have to remind you that it was the REPUBLICANS who connected the bills together in an effort to leverage their demands on the border?

The border bill gave them what they asked for and even omitted Democrat requests for a path to citizenship and DACA. The ONLY reason this would get a NO vote would be to make things better for Trump politically(he thinks), but does NOTHING to help the country.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the legislative process set up for this purpose? If one chamber votes to pass a bill, the other chamber has the opportunity to change the bill to their liking before voting on it. Then, if it passes, it goes back to the original chamber for another vote.

The point being, all of these little details can be worked through in the process. Unfortunately, the pubs won't even vote on the bill. They are afraid of provoking their dear leader's wrath.

You are a smart guy. Don't try to convince yourself that this is anything other than politics. The current speaker, like his predecessor, promised they would pass a border bill DAY ONE. Now, they are not doing shit, bc it will hurt donnie's chances come November.

trump, God, Country. The GOP motto.

i think the bill isn’t tough enough, specifically on the avg numbers allowed and no requirement for proving the need for asylum …… BUT ……. compromise is how Government is supposed to work. You’re never going to get anywhere if you adopt a “my way are the highway” policy. This goes for most dealings/negotiations in life.

I’m not a fan of the $60B to Ukraine. I’m all for sending them military aide or supplies for our EoL stockpiles, but spending $60B on a losing cause? If you’re gonna do that, might as well just burn it. If we are honestly concerned about Russian expansion into NATO allied countries…. Take that $60B and reinforce our allies.

With all the money we’ve thrown at Ukraine, we could’ve out fitted Poland with a few F-22s and a Ford Class Aircraft Carrier.

Oh I know it’s politics. But the bill is also severely flawed, so suggestions that the republicans in the house should enthusiastically rubber stamp the senate bill is incorrect.

I hope they do what you suggest. Redline the bill, create superior legislation, vote to pass it and send back to the senate.

If Texas ever secedes, I’m going to laugh at how fvcked the rest of the US is going to be. “Even if Biden could sign an EO” what stopped him the 1st week of office that’s any different now?

????????

I fail to see how or why :
1) that would be funny
2) The rest of US would be screwed? At least from a “conservative” perspective. Lose Texas and there will never be another Republican, Moderate Conservative, or Moderate Dem President majority or President ever again.

Soooooo I’m guessing you’re assuming the US would be screwed from an energy or agriculture perspective? It would “suck” but “screwed”???? I do t know about that.

Maybe from a foreign policy or National Security perspective? I mean Texas secedes thus opening a door to invasion from China? Well now the US has a Chinese province on our border sooooooo ya that would constitute “screwed”, but now the surviving Texas citizens are Chinese …. Hardly something to laugh about

With all that said …. all this secession talk is BS. No state is going anywhere.

2nd largest GDP in the Union. GDP takes a 8-10% haircut alone. We have a ton of natural resources and we’re wanting to use them.

China is so scary. They’re going to sail right through the gulf and USA will just wave hello. Just like they’ve done to every other nation that wants to take control of the Middle East. Oh wait, that’s not what happens. Nothing will happen to Texas. The US will not allow anyone else to set foot there.

You’re correct. Seceding won’t happen. Unfortunately, we’re all going to have a front row seat to watch this country implode.

Thinking about all the goobers in 10gal hats I see throughout Houston raging in customs as they try to fly in/out of Texas would make the whole situation worth it, imo. Nobody acts more entitled than a lifelong Texan who is slightly inconvenienced.
