Now that we know that the guy embezzled millions from the law firm… do we know if Maggie had a life insurance policy?!?! (Asking for a friend) 😢
My knowledge is this case is strictly limited to the TI message board as a disclaimer but if all of those things are true then millions of dollars missing sure smells like it could be a motive

After today’s developments, I have a new theory. I think it’s much more likely that Maggie found out that Alex was embezzling millions from the law firm and was in process of leaving him (taking any remaining money he had) and he had to get rid of that problem.
They were killed on June 7 and on June 10 there was a scheduled hearing in the boat lawsuit that included a motion for Alex to be required to complete financial disclosures. That could have been a big problem for a man who had been embezzling money. How do you attempt make that go away?
Maybe this supposed opioid addiction is why Alex was embezzling $$ but maybe not. The stuff is legal and do you really need millions to keep up a pain pill habit? Nah. To me, this all reeks of a narcissist trying to gain sympathy from the public before he is charged with major crimes.

Just for another take. The people I know who know him well, admittedly all lawyers, do not think highly of him as a man of character at all. In fact they warn you to stay away from him.
I wonder if he tried to stage the shootout and disappear and one rebounded and hit his head which then required medical attention.

Living in Rock Hill area from what I saw and staying away I would assume.
I’m not from South Carolina but am just across line north of Charlotte. This case is some real life movie type stuff and I’m not usually drawn into these things. But being that it’s sort of local I am fascinated by this whole thing. Lots of moving parts and it sounds like maybe they crossed the wrong people for once. I don’t know but I was curious if you guys/ladies from down there could weigh in.
I also apologize if anyone is kin to them. It sounds like they have old generational type money and have pulled strings maybe in the past. I’m clearly guessing and not trying to be inflammatory but the story gets wilder by the week it seems.

Maybe I’m just a little naive, but is it normal to just have that much revenue for a law firm in Hampton county? I feel like for someone to embezzle millions out of a law firm like that, no one has been paying much attention for a while.
Hampton is one of the most, if not the most, Plaintiff friendly counties in the state. Because of that, lawyers will try to bring their case in that county (called "forum shopping") to encourage a bigger settlement than the case might otherwise generate. As you get further into the litigation, many small shop plaintiffs lawyers will associate a big name firm to help bolster the credibility of their case, which adds pressure to the defendant (i.e. the insurance company defending the case) to make a payment.
Firms that have big name/clout (like the Murdaugh firm) - some of which is legit and some of which is old boy network - and become the face of the case usually get compensated very well (even if they do little other than use their reputation to procure a big settlement). So you take one of the most well known firms in the county that has the highest dollar figure settlement/verdict amounts and you get a pretty lucrative operation.

Maggie asking for a forensic accounting of their personal finances is not that big of a deal if the rumors of an impending divorce are true. That would be more of a standard operating procedure.

Did you ever stop to think that she did that in preparation for the impending Civil Procedures? Possible that she knew more than anyone how that household ran from a financial standpoint.
