⚖️ MURDAUGH MURDERS & TRIAL THREAD ⚖️

Not as smart as you think. If he punctured his RUN FLAT tire with a knife, there is no need to change the tire. It's a RUN FLAT. You can drive it a certain mileage and at a certain speed so you can make it to a service station. Most cars with run flats don't even have a spare!
I read the other day that he could have gone 50 miles...and his Mercedes did not have a spare

Regardless, how in the #311 do you get a slashed tire while driving down the road? That would be some serious Road Runner $#!+.
Agreed. Though I will say I've seen a 'slashed' (was more stabbed than slashed) retain air for 15 miles of interstate driving before it ran flat.

But the guy who's tire it was, wasn't 'linked' to the knife used to stab it either.

This is getting weird.

Yep if the sidewall was "slashed" the run flat technology doesn't work like if there was a nail in the tread. Still better than a standard tire, but the sidewall is what allows it to be driven and if that's compromised, well it isn't going to run on a flat that well.

Also, if he or someone else slashed it at home, you know that Benz has a low pressure indicator...so why leave? There are just too many holes in the story from this past Saturday for him not to have been in on staging it all.

Well, ya see, a guy was kneeling on the shoulder of the road and held the knife out that he stole from Alex's house, which slashed the tire as he was driving by. Then the guy on the shoulder of the road got in his truck and drove past Alex, who was stopped on the side of the road with the flat tire. Then he thunk on it more and then decided he would turn around and fire a bunch of shots at him.
THAT explains it! :)

Where is Alex? How sick would you have to be to pull the trigger on your own kid? Were they Gamecock fans? Since ousted, wonder if he rats out any dirty laundry on his former law partners? Let it all come out!

You can't make this shit up!

I'm thinking they (Alex, family, whoever) are trying to throw as many twists and turns into this so that there's no way to get a clean trial on anything and thus no guilty verdict based on technicalities. They are equal parts smart and crooked, after all.

"Beyond a reasonable doubt"
Idk. Not sure that I can call slicing your run flat tire, driving away, pulling over on the side of a road, jacking the car up to change the tire, grazing yourself with a 22, and claiming someone drove past and shot you, being smart. This whole thing is one for the ages, but I haven't seen anything smart about it yet and I'm expecting much more of the opposite as the facts continue to surface.

You just can't make this $hit up. Like a friend once told me, sometimes you just have to take a step back and admire stupidity.

Yep agree with all that. But smart enough to know how to try to game the system at this point.

I’m still not convinced he killed them although certainly wouldn’t be surprised. Could be he stole from the wrong people a la Ozark and the families death was the result.

What does it matter if they were Gamecock fans? Does it make the tragedy ok? Sorry, I just don’t see what that has to do with anything.

This dude may be in the wind. Would be epic tbh.
Alex staged his murder attempt. Paid ems drivers that he surely has relationships with to be closest to scene. They get to scene and he hands them a sack full of cash. They immediately call medvac. Wrap head in bandage, put him on stretcher before anyone else can see wound. Chopper picks him. Only chopper was hired by Alex. Chopper flies him somewhere. Lawyer said musc and bro said savannah.

Law firm gives him the millions under the agreement that their story is he stole it. They do this because they know he has the dirt on them and his threatening to roll on them if they don’t.

I want to know who has seen Alex since he got in that helicopter and certainly since he went to rehab.

This is about to get even more tragic. I'm absolutely heartbroken over all of this. If you have reason to not like this family I won't argue with you, but anyone else I'd ask for your prayers please.

I'd ask for your prayers for the Smith and Beach families as well.

Do you think the Murdaughs are cooperating with LE in the Smith investigation?

I'm not ready to go there either. I think the family was caught up in something else. Drugs, embezzlement, something. No inside info though.

This looks to be a decent web series on the whole mess. Not sure how accurate the info will be but at least you get a visual of the area:

I’ve been on a podcast (Murdaugh Murders) and reading binge over the last week with this situation. Everything just seems so bizarre, and reeks of wealthy privilege.

The Murdaugh Murders podcast is fascinating, even if it IS published by Mandy Matney with FITS news.

My wife has been enamored with the story and all of its twists and turns. I really hope all of the onion layers are peeled back and we are allowed to see what really happened. I doubt it happens but would be interesting to see how this whole mess evolved.

So basically a real-life version of "The Firm"?

(I think that plot had more to do with overbilling but either way....)

Nah, i think that was just how they were able to get them in the end, but i it's been a long time since i read the book/watched the movie.

Boiling down the latest events as "reported" (probably not all factual)

1. Gay man dies as a result of a supposed hit and run accident ~5 years ago. Evidence at the scene does not seem to support that conclusion and there are suspicions that Paul was involved after being upset about his brother Buster and the man being involved with each other.

2. Alex's son Paul kills 19 year old friend Mallory Beach ~ 2 years ago after hitting a bridge at a high rate of speed at 1:00 in the morning while drunk and belligerent.

3. Paul and mother are found by father/husband Alex shot to death. They are both shot twice by different guns, one a shotgun and the other a rifle. It has been said that they appeared like executions and one or both may have been tied to a chair.

4. Investigation on closed hit and run case is reopened after somehow being potentially linked to murders.

5. Alex's law firm recuses themselves from any further involvement in the murder case, months after the murder.

6. Alex is supposedly shot by a drive by shooter after pulling over on the side of a road to address a flat run-flat tire that had been sliced by a knife. The car supposedly does not have a spare because the tires were run-flat. The knife is said to have been found and somehow linked to Alex.

7. Alex issues an apology to friends and family for things that he has done and checks into rehab, supposedly for opiate addition.

8. Alex is fired from his family law firm after it was determined that he misappropriated millions of dollars.

9. Other:
a. A young Paul may have killed a nanny by pushing her down a flight of stairs in anger.
b. Wife was supposedly about to file for divorce at time of murder
c. There were reports that the murder scene had been tampered with by Alex
d. The "hit and run" death may have actually been due to a beating with baseball bat with the body being drug to the center of the road afterwards to look like a hit and run.
e. No charges have been filed

Appears that either this was some sort of revenge murder of Paul, or Alex is at the center of all of this and the boating accident has nothing to do with it.

Good clifs. Some additional color:

#2: The boat crash was handled terribly. Listening to the dispatcher made my anxiety go through the roof. Anyway, once authorities got there 20 min later after going to the WRONG BRIDGE, the botched the whole thing. Pauls phone and wallet were somehow lost. No one was given a field sobriety test. An officer stated that it was unclear who was driving but you can hear the passengers saying it was Paul driving in recordings from the scene. When they finally pulled Paul's BA level at the hospital, it was 3x the limit hours after the crash. And he made a lude joke to a nurse, after killing someone. Anyway, half the crew that responded to the crash is/was linked to the Murdaughs.

To add to #3, SLED immediately said after the murders that there was "no danger to the public" which was clearly an eff up on their part. So someone brutally executes two people and there's no sense of alarm for all the other nearby residents? But then the hunt is on! And then the brothers go on national TV with a big reward.

Saying there was no danger to the public immediately after the murders is what I do not understand. If you don’t know who did it or know why they did it, then how can you definitively say there is no danger to the public? Also, if Alec has a cell phone, or a GPS device on his car, such as On star, then it seems they would be able to have a very good idea of where he was when it all happened.

Let's think of potential reasons:

1. The murders clearly looked like targeted executions and not random murders
2. The murders looked like one of the two parties were involved with the other's murder and the other's probably thought to be done by Alex
3. It was a stupid comment made to unjustifiably calm the nerves of the community without any basis in fact

I can't think of any other reason...

Also, that cabin looks like it has some vehicles around it. I'd guess they have an old truck without GPS/Onstar.

Plus he's probably smart enough to not bring his phone along.

All that said - I don't think Alex killed his wife and kid. He may have been involved somehow (owed money to the wrong people, hired someone even, etc) but I don't think he actually did it.

Another thing about Alex taking money from the firm. A lot of lawfirms can have escrow accounts for the purposes of simply holding funds until some final arrangement is made (mediation, arbitration, closing, dispursement, etc.). Alex could have conceivably siphoned off tons of money that way.
