⚖️ MURDAUGH MURDERS & TRIAL THREAD ⚖️

I think it was discussed this morning before I tuned in. That and their cell phones going dead 30 seconds apart after being active and it being an hour later before 911 call
The video was discussed by a. reporter who got that info from Law enforcement sources. saying that is showed that Alex changed his clothes. That video hasn't been played yet at the trial

I don't. think it was discussed yet in the Trial. I do think I have read that when Alex was being questioned about it, Alex claimed that he started to roll over Paul's body to "check his pulse" and claimed the phone fell out his back pocket and then Alex picked it up and set it on his back

That was another thing…the captain said if he had tried to roll him over or even check the pulse on his neck that there is no way he wouldn’t have blood on him. His hands were tucked under and his neck was bloody so there was a big question on how he checked for a pulse

If you had just shot him or watched someone else shoot him and saw his head explode and brains hit the ceiling, there would be no need to check his pulse. Not even a father hoping he was OK.

I think none of us have any idea what we would do in that situation. You’re not operating from your frontal cortex in any way.

Discussion at home is Alex bending over and slightly rocking back & forth during much of today's proceedings.
Any ideas? My daughter says possibly Alex is avoiding watching the video that's being shown. I'm not sure how visible the video is to the courtroom. Is it restricted to laptops or projected for mass view?
It's restricted to the witness, lawyer and jury monitors. Before they called the first witness the defense said they had technical difficulties and had to use the monitor in front of AM. They used the paper taped to the top to flip over and cover it from public view during graphic images. Later switched to a box lid.

Pretty sure he told authorities he checked the pulse but I agree

The other first responders said there was no need for them to upon arrival

Or that they know he has enough information to bring them down with him regardless

They all have skeletons
I think the family believes he is innocent….or at least that is what people in his corner would lead the public to believe.

I told my wife last night that I would be surprised if motive for him was that he was scared that his sons trial would open Pandora’s box.

You don’t know how correct you are. Mr. Parker (of Parker’s Gas Stations) was not about to settle the civil suit.

The South Carolina tort reform act that was passed back in the mid-2000 was supposed to “fix” joint, and several liability in this State.

However, like everything involving our tort system, or our Worker’s Compensation system, the plaintiffs lawyers, and their lobbyist were the Harlem Globetrotters, and the business interest fighting them on the bill were Washington generals

I didn’t listen to any of the Podcasts so I’m somewhat behind. I know the basics but not near like you do VN. But it seems pretty obvious to me he didn’t want his son going to trial

Started watching a pretty good YouTubeTV series last night to make it easier to follow along in the trial

Attorney Eric Bland, who is no friend of the Murdaughs, says Alex's defense team, all the way down to the paralegals, are convinced he didn't kill them. He's talked with them and said to a person they think he's innocent. In fact it gave him some pause as the trial began as to whether the prosecution would have the goods on him.

It will be interesting to hear both Jennifer Nates testimony and Matt Wilde’s testimony. Jennifer is the SLED expert on GSR and Matt is on the FBI Cellular Analysis Squad. They are both on the witness list. Of course, they have peers that do the same thing so im not sure if will be them, but that testimony will be interesting

I must say that I was impressed with the witnesses demeanor and testimony

Maybe I expected less but it was a well oiled machine

doesn’t mean successful

Harpootlian seems disjointed and grasping at straws

but he is a wiley old sly fox - so still beware

I too noticed Alex’s constant gum chewing and occasional bobbing of his head/rocking. We need a body language expert to chime in on this.

Yeah so far I am thinking the prosecution team is doing a really good job laying out the timeline and how he could have easily gotten rid of the gun, changed clothes, etc before going back to the scene and calling 9-1-1

Both phones go from active to silent at about the same time. When asked on the 9-1-1 call how long it had been since he talked to them he said it was an hour and a half maybe two hours ago. When asked what they were doing, he stated he spoke to them in person.

By the time first responders get there the bodies are no longer bleeding and there was no reason to conduct any sort of live saving measures, cell phone on the back of PM. His arms underneath of him. AM states he checked for a pulse on arrival but body was not moved and if he had done it on the neck there would be blood residue on his hand.

So far, for someone that did not listen to the podcast and have read very minimum on it, they are creating a pretty good case for me to start leaning towards guilty but a long, long way to go and as you state, AM hired a sly fox that has been around the block.

All he has to do is create doubt

Is there video from years ago of alex? Was he exhibiting the same behaviors then?

Rocking and gun chewing can be a learned and practiced behavior to hide the real emotions, or lack there of, of a moment.

In his prior court appearances for this case, he showed no sad emotions and appeared to be just one of the good ole boys even smiling and joking with his attorneys. But those were pretty short hearings.

Yeah, my wife loves watching Dateline and you see this all the time in those episodes. Even after mountains of evidence are presented and guilty verdicts, many family members still refuse to accept what actually happened. They don't want to believe the person they knew their entire lives is a murderer.

Reality is a bitch.

See also the friends and family of Bill Cosby and Joe Paterno for other examples. Their brains can't reconcile that the same person that they adored is really a scumbag.

LOL, so true. We might be the most disfunctional state in the country in that regard.

I remember getting a call from the House Labor Commerce and Industry committee asking me ,an insurance agent, if requiring liquor liability for every business that sold any alcohol consumed on premises would be bad for the marketplace. I gave them my opinion and asked why they would contact me for my instead of an industry group and they said they did a google search for liquor liability in SC and my website came up. This is the extent of thought that goes into some of the insurance laws in our state. Now every place that serves one drink to a drunk driver gets sued for max coverage for DUI cases involving injury regardless if they were the first of four places an offender stopped or not.

Now we are down to about one monoline liquor liability market in the state. The insurance lobbying groups gave up on this state a decade ago.

I agree with most of this. My question is this though, if the Murdaugh's have been screwing people for generations, seems like it would be tough to get even 1 juror to hold out.
Yeah, I agree with this but also think that at least 1 (or family of 1) of the jurors has been on the winning side of the Murdaugh's legal representation

This reaction is precisely what the defense is banking on, I assume. So far, I think that's the crux of the defense. Sort of, hey Mr. Juror, it's simply not possible for this father to kill his own son. Regardless of what the evidence shows, Alex loved his son. Apple of his eye and all that. There's just no way. And then the State has to convince those jurors that this man did exactly that. Slaughtered his own son.
Then the prosecution needs to remind the jury of Susan Smith.
