⚖️ MURDAUGH MURDERS & TRIAL THREAD ⚖️

Joe McCullough is sitting on the aisle just over Red's head. Dark suit. Gray hair. Taking notes.

He represents victim Connor Cook (I think) in the boat case.

Edit: some quick research probably will confirm that Joe McCullough represented usc during steroid scandal of 80s.
I was wondering who that was as he looks like a stereotypical southern gentleman straight from "Chaarrl-stn".

My guess is the defense team knows there is at least one juror who will not say guilty no matter what is presented.
There could be video of him with blood on his hands and cleaning the gun and I believe at least one local would hold out. Too many generational relationships where a lot of people are part of tangled webs with the Murdaughs (not related to this crime, rather have benefitted somehow in the past, know somebody, scared, etc.)

Meh, who would stick their neck out for this guy now? At least, who would want to do it AND actually be a juror in this trial? This guy is done. His partners have turned their backs on him, he has no money or will soon have no money as the civil cases continue. He might get off because of the weakness of the case against him, but I don't think anyone would worry about what would happen to them at this point. Besides, if a juror had a relationship somehow with him, it would come out if it hadn't already. JMO.

I’m not convinced he did it. The state has serious problems with its time line. Taking the definition of reasonable doubt into it.
I'm totally opposite. He was there right before the murders, left and came back an hour later in different clothes. That tells me he did it, or at least watched it happen. Same for my wife when I explained it all to her last night.

SIAP but has there been any comment throughout this year and half fiasco from Maggie's family? Does anyone recognize any of her family on the courthouse?

Let's put it this way....would you take a chance if you were on that jury? The home field advantage is very real in this one.

You really think the other brothers are going to have 12 jurors (plus 6 alternates) killed or f-ed with? I mean Alex won't ever see the outside of a prison regardless of outcome of this case so why bother?

Wow so he is running up billable hours by attending the trial

Wasn't Cook's proposed cut of the momma's estate $100,000 . That will be eaten up quickly

I feel like you guys are wanting someone to come out with a picture of the dude standing over the bodies with a rifle in order to meet the "beyond a reasonable doubt".

Evidence puts him at the crime when it happened while he stated he was with his dad at the time.

He's proven that he is unhinged, and for those that think a gruesome crime scene is beyond his nature needs to listen to the podcast of what he used to do to his hooker (but trust me, its disturbing).

Which podcast is that? I'm all ears 😂

Yeah, I agree with this but also think that at least 1 (or family of 1) of the jurors has been on the winning side of the Murdaugh's legal representation
I hear ya, but keep in mind, Alex is fvcked regardless. He's not walking away from ALL of this. And while he's going away, you have to continue living in that same small community, with all the same people.

I have no idea.

From the first day I have believed Alex killed both of them because the wife wanted a divorce and the son was causing more financial pain with his upcoming trial and previous screwups. However, I don't think Alex pulled the trigger and had one person do it with 2 different guns to try and confuse authorities. (easier to keep one person quiet)

I'm looking for a hung jury. Just like the OJ trial they will win by picking the right jury. There's a reason they wanted to keep the trial close to home. They only need one juror to hold out.

My personal opinion is they are all pigs at the trough. The grandfather, grandmother, sons, wives and adult children.....they have been screwing the people of that area for over 100 years and everyone in the family knew and benefited from it.
There is a Hell.

Have no idea. I wouldn't put it past Joe just to show up out of curiosity...but methinks he probably will be compensated.

I must say that I was impressed with the witnesses demeanor and testimony

Maybe I expected less but it was a well oiled machine

doesn’t mean successful

Harpootlian seems disjointed and grasping at straws

but he is a wiley old sly fox - so still beware
I think possibly ole poot thought the Colleton County sheriff's deputies would be a bunch of Barney Fife's and he would embarrass the crime scene investigation tactics employed before SLED rode in. Sure there were some errors looking back but for the most part they were efficient and professional. And their demeanor on the witness stand and articulate manner of explanation has been very impressive.

Why was the trial not moved?

the more I think about it, the more I think its pretty clear that he will unfortunately get off.

Can they prove that he was there, pulled the trigger, hired someone to do it, or have a solid motive?

On number 1, so far, no. 2, no gunshot residue or splatter. 3. Can they even come close to convincing a jury that he would jill his family for insurance money?

I rather not entertain salon gossip.

What? They may not have introduced it yet in trial, but we know they have Paul's Snapchat video putting Alex at the crime scene minutes before they were shot. They also have his cell phone being there.

IMO they are going to show Paul's video next week to show Alex WAS there and he changed clothes. That's why they harped on his clean white t-shirt today.

My understanding is it’s only what is believed to be his voice in the Snapchat which is hardly slam dunk.

This. There ain’t no murdaugh mafia left with granddaddy gone and alex gone. Alex was the bad seed that would continue the family biz. And he’s done one way or the other.

True I guess. I don't know if voice recognition software can be used/admitted, but what I heard/read is that they have several witnesses that have said it is his voice. They also have his voice on video a couple hours after the murders (the video of him being questioned in the cop car). You would think voice recognition would give a very high % that it is his voice.

Edit: See above

If Murdaugh planned it and executed it, why not pick up the shells? or make a bonafide effort to dispose of the bodies.

Seems like it was half planned/half impulse, or else he had help and maybe the other partner didn't complete the mission on cleanup?
A combination of drugs, alcohol, adrenaline, debt, and arrogance will not produce the same result as a "reasonable person." I mean, the guy tried to get cousin Eddie to take him out. He was not operating with a full deck.

Has anyone subscribed to the Mandy Matney premium stuff? Are they doing daily updates? I know their free podcasts aren’t being produced daily.

The Impact of Influence folks did a podcast Wednesday and one Friday. I really like them but I would like a good, informed daily update.

I am going to be on the West Coast the next two weeks and won’t be able to follow the trial as closely, so any suggestions for a good daily update would be great. (And I don’t care for the CourtTV and Law and Crime folks where they have a panel of “experts” critiquing and opining. Just the facts, ma’am.)

This is what a lot of the rocking and other mannerisms make think of. It was said he was into drugs so wonder if those are withdrawal type symptoms
