As you may or may not know but I referee High School Football in the Southern California area. This week is week 0 for us and already we are having cancellations. My Frosh Game today was cancelled due to COVID. Wasn't given the specifics. Stay tuned as this is surely not going to be the only one. Our crew has already been rescheduled for tomorrow's Varsity game for the same reasons.
Very interested in future details.

Remember who pays and funds school administrators. They have been compromised from day one and are destroying the academic and social lives of a generation of our children. I have a 5 year old who cries to go to school after his school went virtual after 2 weeks.

Chapin was scheduled to open the season with Irmo. Cancelled this past weekend. We picked up Keenan on Monday. Keenan shut the hole school down and cancelled yesterday and we picked up Airport on Thursday afternoon. That's two games cancelled within 4 days. This is going to be a crazy year.
And Airport was supposed to play Crestwood, so not sure what happened there.
Edit: Crestwood got Covid.

Hahaha… so thinking for oneself and expressing true honest thought does tend to alienate people. It also what true leaders are made of. Dabo is one of them.

It doesn’t make one a sociopath. Sorry, I’m never buying homogenized thought by a group to hide some true feelings. I have no agenda other than to work with facts. You come to a different conclusion, that’s great by me. We all agree on the rules of football or golf and we all play different styles, strategy. But it’s forthright.

Really horrible, manipulating people at the control board of MSM, political parties, lobbying firms, pharma companies have told people how to think exclusively. Why? It means money and loyalty to their cause. So sad and no thanks.

I’ll die with my conscience clean. We need more Jack Ryans and Dabos.

the problem in this thread is that “thinking for yourself” is just a nicer way to define hardcore confirmation bias. These people made up their minds about covid last year and nothing is going to change their minds. Doctors have told recent stories about people being put on ventilators who still refuse to believe that they have covid. Last year they told us that covid was just a tool that the libs were using to get rid of trump. (Apparently every other country in the world decided to wreck their economy to get rid of Trump also) Now that the libs are in power, they of course are using covid to maintain power. And again, other countries are following suit to help the dems somehow.

Now that it is apparent that the unvaccinated are filling our hospitals, they want to talk about treatment options being more important than vaccines. No matter what amount of data they are presented, if Joe Rogan says covid is not a big deal they will believe him. (Until the next time he endorses a socialist candidate like Bernie, then he will be an “idiot” again)

it is all confirmation bias, not “thinking for yourself”.

The left has to keep this train rollin through '22.
How stupid can you be!! This whole CF is due to a right wing batshit crazy TFG that ignored advise and allowed this virus to become a full blown pandemic. Now variants are becoming dangerous as people continue to act stupid and not get vaccinated due to absolutely ridiculous reasons. Now a lambda varient that is even more contagious and life threatening. Epidemiologists state we’re two variants from virus being immune to the current vaccine.

So please continue to think this way. Then maybe idiots like yourself will leave us in peace by being six feet under or ashes scattered to the wind.

Obviously thinking for yourself can be good, but if you take it extremes, then you have sociopathy or just plain craziness. We all need a little independent thought and a little discernment, but especially when it comes to things like science and medicine, being able to discern expertise and authority from agenda driven cherry picking and quackery is probably more important because we aren’t really competent in these fields.

Thinking for yourself can also mean refusing to acknowledge any truth that doesn’t conform to your own biases, and we know how bad people are at recognizing their own biases. Sometimes, people describe simply having a minority view as “thinking for yourself,” when it may just be a stubborn unwillingness to assent to anything you don’t want to like. That’s actually closer to something like resentment, because you don’t like anybody making you feel put upon or like you’re not an authority into yourself. There’s an awful lot of that going on here.

Also, just speaking generally, there are very few situations that either call for “independent thought,” or when truly independent thought would even be appropriate. Most of the time, we just base our behavior on social conventions or experience that tells us that certain things follow other things. We don’t need to really understand why or how they work, and we probably wouldn’t be able to figure that out on our own anyway (and certainly not without being able to discern who’s an expert or authority on whatever we were trying to understand). Would a typical person, thinking independently, really be able to figure out how to do a heart bypass? Would they be able to independently think themselves into learning French?

So I don’t think people really mean that they want people to “think independently” about this stuff. They just don’t like what authorities and experts have to say, and would like to find alternate authorities and experts who will say one thing different. But the problem comes when simply saying something different than established conventions is is treated as evidence of veracity. Once you start down that road, you can end up believing that the crazier something is, the more believable it is.
Of course…. And the opposite is true. People BLINDLY following a religious cause, a political group, a football team. They are FANatics by definition.

Take the Raiders Black Hole Fans as an example. If you do that for 5-6 hours on a Sunday, awesome. If you are making your life decisions every living moment based on being a Raiders Black Hole group, you’re a problem. That’s exactly what many in politics have done. They just take what AOC, Taylor Greene, Trump, Pelosi, Rand Paul, insert Dem “leader”, insert Pub “leader” as doctrine. WTF? Seriously.

I just moved from San Diego to Tampa. I like DeSantis decision making ability. But some of his unwavering executive COVID mandates have been stupid. Personal protection isn’t a political decision or movement. It’s mathematical common sense.

It’s like golfers wearing sleeves today. We used to mock Asians wearing full body covering and particularly arm sleeves playing golf. Well, lo and behold too much sun exposure causes a whole myriad of issues from pigmentation changes to wrinkles to cancer. American golf women are wearing sleeves now. There are more MULLETS on the PGATOUR to protect the back of the neck. Looks like a whole set of conservatives have learned something.

Remember the lunacy of people against yoga? It’s a religious conversion practice. JFC. And now those against this “radical” practice do it themselves. It’s stretching people regardless of its origin. It’s because they were UNEDUCATED ABOUT THE PRACTICE.

We have to stop the BLACK and WHITE perspectives on COVID. Each of us has a DOZEN+ vaccines in us already which have KILLED a very small number of people Vs the massive number these diseases it would otherwise for over 100 years. The COVID vaccine has mathematically proven a significantly higher rate of defense against the virus. It’s not a silver bullet but it certainly is saving a massive amount of lives and more importantly freeing up hospital space.

Sociopaths…. You could argue that Dabo is exactly a sociopath. But a sociopath for all goodness as we define good. Sure enough he had a MASSIVE amount of haters on this board and across the country. But, proven over time, he’s won many over. Go back and look at my posting history for 15 years. I’ve respected his every move cause he was committed to making HIS moves based on his beliefs based on legit faith, perspective and goodness as a whole even if it pissed a whole bunch of people off. And I was BANNED for calling out this publication 11 years ago because of the very questionable leading articles trying to get Dabo out. And if there is honesty by those responsible who wrote them, they’d agree.

And sure enough, Dabo has job #1 for sociopaths. You can actually be a “sociopath” for massive good. Problem is it draws some of the bad too. Police is probably the best example. There are great sociopath cops protecting all of us. I think the antisocial aspect of a sociopath is misguided. I think a positive sociopath can run off everyone making them appear antisocial because others can’t handle how positive and a good a committed person can be. These sociopaths are so overwhelming they either run people off or draw people together. Exactly what religious leaders do. If Dabo has a pair of 7-5 seasons in years 2011 and 2012 he’s fired and mocked as a freakazoid, rah rah, no football talent, faith user, “look at me” in interviews washed up football coach.

Will things change when Newsome is gone next month?
Hope Newsome is out on his ass but the fraud is already starting. On the MB, there are security cameras in an apt complex and 2 ladies are opening the community mailbox and taking out any recall ballots that they find. Also, the way the envelope was designed to mail back the recall ballot, u can see the answer to the recall question (yes or no) thru the envelope. No question that was on purpose so they can discard some that say yes w/o opening.

If I may bring some data to the board. I’ve mentioned here before, wife is a M.D., Ph.D pathologist and Studies the data closely. Her group developed the testing process for our area before it was available in the mainstream.
1. Vaccine was developed for the original COVID-19 strain, not the variant, but we are fortunate it is showing to be effective vs the variant. (I am grateful for the speed and efficiency that is was developed and brought to market). This is how I think about it, no one ever promised me I would never become infected, just that my body would be able to recognize and mount an adequate response.
2. Breakthrough cases will happen, more so now with the variant (much more contagious than original) but the key is it helps prevent the onset of serious Complications.
3. Data from major hospital system for patient admissions/August. Age 5-17 = 0% patients admitted vaccinated, 18-24 = 1.2%, 25-49=3.5%, 50-64 = 0%, 65+=16%.
large overall number of admissions in 18-24, 25-49 and 65+. I’m not including 4 and below because they can’t be vaccinated. Not sure why they lump 5-17 because 12 and below aren’t eligible for the vaccine. There was also a note that said a large number of vaccinated admissions had other co-morbidities. **some theories on the older cohort…The 65 and older group were the first to receive vaccine so could be some decrease in immunity as well as many have other co-morbidities that prevent them from mounting a full immune response. (Ex, chemo patients, etc).

I am very conservative politically and respect people’s right to decide for themselves. Based on the data, she believes the protections provided by the vaccine far outweigh the risk. I also do not believe in shut Downs, I believe kids need to be in school in person, and that masks aren’t perfect, but can help reduce spread. I will continue to live my life to the fullest while taking basic precautions when necessary. I will be in the stadium for Clemson v UGA. Go Tigers.

Are you telling us that the vast majority of admitted patients are vaccinated? I think you need to change "unvaccinated" to "vaccinated"?

The myth of full ICU's

1725 ICU beds in SC
1412 occupied (normal(0
Only 461 by COVID patients.

Georgia
3032 ICU beds
2717 in use (GA doesn't break out COVID usage of ICU beds. Assuming similar percentage as SC, that be 870 COVID patients.)

Great post. My kids are in school and wearing masks. We are vaccinated and taking the precautions and I don't want another shutdown. People seem to not understand a shutdown is possible because the hospitals being overrun by unvaxed covid patients.

Control is certainly a possibility here. On the other hand, as a spouse of someone in healthcare, hc workers are mostly scared shitless right now. TIFWIW

If control of the population is the main goal, is everyone ITT willing to admit the conservative govt in SC, GA, etc are also pulling said strings?

Yea, I asked a hospital Doctor that comes to my gym about it, as someone reported Prisma was putting people in janitor closets they were so full...He said Tuomey (prisma) wasn't full or overflowing. "about normal" were his words.

It varies by hospital and community spread, some are at capacity and others are doing fine. My wife’s hospital is ok right now but certainly watching closely as cases are trending up sharply. They have another satellite hospital (90 miles away) that is already limiting elective cases because they are at capacity. While everyone can transmit, the overwhelming majority of hospitalizations are coming from unvaccinated communities.
Do politicians ruin everything and manipulate things for their own good? Your damn right and I don’t trust them either.

And we all know, COVID is the only reason someone goes to a hospital or ICU for.

COVID certainly impacts the usage negatively, but people act like COVID patients are occupying every bed in every hospital.

Exactly...crooked ass covid elections are their only hope to not lose the House and Senate after Biden left thousands of Americans to possibly die Afghanistan. At least the Brits have the balls to help our fellow Americans to escape.

I was alerted on Monday that my ballot had been mailed to me, which I received yesterday. I haven't opened it yet but I did see that the envelope that contained the ballot, there was a window that revealed a barcode. I will report if the envelope that is to be used to has the same window for the recall question.

Except for all those vaccinated people still 'testing positive'.

This should have been treated like the flu from the get go. Only test people showing symptoms, oh and all those test kits that were whipped up by none other than the source country who is known far and wide to make the most superior products on earth. I mean, I've never had anything 'made in china' break on the first use.

Newsflash, if you're generally unhealthy, you're likely more susceptible to adverse effects, same as if you have preexisting conditions.

If you STILL can't see this has been about control from day one, idk what to tell you.

All those vaccinated people are not testing positive. That’s ridiculous.

Not hard to be considered as the best governor when you are compared to the likes of Gray Davis, Pete Wilson, Jerry Brown (Twice) and Gavin Newsom……

something every American needs to honestly take a look at.

Everyone is generally happy with their Amazon deliveries/stock and Apple iPhones/stock? I’d say 95% are thrilled.
It also means that a whole slew of negative impacts of other businesses and negative social communication haven’t sprung from it. We don’t labor HEAVILY on these negatives because the benefits are numerous.

It’s like Dabo. We all agree he’s great but he’s also FIRED numerous opposing coaches, affected families and kids, caused heartache of moves just because of what he does. It’s part of reality.

The STANDARD by which the PUBLIC COLLECTIVELY views public officials is extremely HIGH. There is like 5% of any public leader in the last 30 years that the GENERAL PUBLIC agrees as a successful politician. Why? The polarization of parties. I laugh every time at a public poll of Dems/Pubs. The bias of viewing an issue is just plain pathetic.

So….. to your point. He’s the best of all the Worst CA Governors. At some point, we have to have some level of agreement of who are the good guys fighting for us as a whole. If everyone TRULY sucks, we will never evolve to appreciating those (like Dabo) who are trying to fight the good fight.

Ok, thanks. To my understanding, there are 2 holes on the front (one on each side) that allow for the yes/no to partially be seen. My question is, wtf are the holes for other than to reveal the answer? You can put ballot in a diff way to cover up but many won't notice.

Didn’t say that…but there are signs in the last days my friend. The Bible warns us of such. How long the “last days” are, I don’t pretend to know bc quite frankly, I don’t. But just know there are bad people in the world, in this country even, that don’t want what’s “best” for you…they just want to control you. Open your eyes just a little bit…this ain’t all about Covid my friend. I mean, where did the common cold go? Think about it? What happened to a sniffle? All Covid now…be weary. I’m not saying Covid isn’t real but this is bigger than Covid, I can promise you that. Don’t be a fool (or a liberal)…same thing…

My whole family had colds a few weeks ago….colds are still going around, I don’t know what you’re talking about all colds being Covid….

Can confirm with @metalman82; opening it right now, but do see the front opening with my address & barcode. Back opening is a somewhat elongated hexagon that I can't see much through.

I'm futzing with the return envelope and I don't see how you'd be able to see my vote from the holes in the return envelope, but I just darkened the circle and you can absolutely easily see the vote through the envelope on the back side. The front (at least in Placer County) has a purple dye that obscures it, but it all depends on how you put the ballot back in.

As per masks, I would love to see of there is any data from georgia. My sister's school district is mask mandated, but several adjacent ones are not. Anecdotally, her district is doing very well right now (limited covid cases). But several surrounding districts have had a number of schools go virtual in the first two weeks. I have googled but cant find that data.

Most of the school districts provide weekly reports so you would probably just have to google their counties. Don't think any of these below have mask mandates. Most are reporting about 1-1.5% of students/staff reporting positive. Some of these districts have given leeway to the principals on how strongly they enforce the mask recommendations based on their current levels of positives.

https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/20960 (Fulton is weird since Atlanta city schools are not included and Fulton is a hodgepodge of mandates so some schools may not be required by the district but by their local community)
https://www.marietta-city.org/domain/1490 (they may be mask mandated)

"Going virtual" isn't going to be exactly apples to apples indicator this year. Most schools last year that went virtual was because of contact tracing and not positivity. Each county was supposed to report the results of their contract tracing/quarantine from 2020/2021 school year to the state as part of their 2021/2022 protocols. Our county isn't doing contact traced quarantining at this point because less than 1% of those that were traced ultimately tested positive in 20/21 (we were not mask mandated last year).

Can we all dispel the fallacy that the vaccination is to prevent you from catching the virus? That wasn't what it was intended to do, it was intended to prevent severe complication to the virus, similarly to what the flu vaccination provides. I read too many comments where the writer seems to be more concerned with the spread than the actual effects of the disease. Personally, I care less about getting it than I do the effects it could do if I do catch it, which I expect will happen eventually.

I am the Head Coach of a school in Georgia that was forced to shutdown until after Labor Day. This past Monday, after having 7 times the number of cases the first two weeks than all of last year combined, our district pulled the plug on in person learning. It stinks and believe me, I don't know what to do in the afternoons. We have rescheduled our two missed games and hopefully this thing dies down. We scrimmaged last Friday night minus 22 players as we have had 15 positives since we started practice on July 26. I have encouraged vaccines, but I have coaches on staff that refuse to get it and I can't make them.

Man, that's rough. Last time I heard, there were ~25 week 0 games in South Carolina that had been cancelled/postponed. From what I have gathered, this is being handled differently in every district, but in most districts a positive case will shut the whole team down. If two teams play on Friday night, and one team has a positive test or two within the 48 hour window after the game, then sometimes both teams have to quarantine. Happened where I coach, so we aren't playing this week. At this point, we haven't had a positive case on our team since we started (July 30th), but it feels inevitable. It's a coin flip week to week.
I realize that there are more important things to consider than sports, but as a coach you feel for the kids. Last season was weird and unpredictable, and this season is setting up to be more of the same. Like you said, hopefully this stuff tapers off and numbers come down. Well wishes to you and your guys going forward.
