If you read about politics, you've certainly read about the recent surge in polling numbers for Democrats. As Republicans do not typically put much stock into polls, let's be honest about what we're seeing. The surge for the Democrats is real. So what's driving this people may ask? Well, it's a couple of things.
One, the Dobbs decision is absolutely a significant factor here. America is a center country. Sometimes it's center left, sometimes it's center right. On abortion, we're a center left country. The Democrats won the post decision argument because of their power in the media and the message they put forward. As usual, Republicans totally misread the room and went in the wrong direction and lost the thread completely.
Second is candidate quality/Trump. Regardless of what one might think of Trump, this must be acknowledge. Everyone seems to have a very strong opinion about him. His influence in choosing candidates in purple state Senate primaries has been catastrophic for Republicans. It's just one terrible candidate after another when he's involved. Please list for me one candidate he's recruited who has broad appeal?
There's a great interview with Ruy Teixeira in the WSJ this weekend everyone should read. He is one of the preeminent voices in political analysis. He's a man on the left but he knows his stuff much like David Axelrod does. His opinion and views should be considered seriously. Basically, he indicates that while Democrats have some real long-term issues with their current path, they are winning right now because Republicans just don't seem to understand how their toxic relationship with Trump is destroying their prospects. The view on the right is too often that someone who can win like Trump did is somehow endowed with some magical ways that mean their personality is what the party needs to reflect. It's just not true at all. Conservative ideas can win, but not when they are put forward by a person like Trump.

Teixeira has a substack too that is a good read. Here's his latest piece about what's going on. I know many on the right like to dismiss these kinds of people but this guy know his stuff. His views should be taken very seriously and very much to heart. Not to mention, his warning for Democrats about becoming the white/elitist party are going completely ignored. If Republicans would ever wake up and start going after all the votes, they would have a great chance at seizing a significant majority. Instead, we keep nominating Trump, Herschel and Dr. Oz.
