⚖️ MURDAUGH MURDERS & TRIAL THREAD ⚖️

Me either on a consistent basis....but when something in the video is visual based you lose out if you don't watch. Sometimes you have to see it like football film.
Video certainly has uses where the visual element is key to what is being conveyed.

But as a basic journalistic means to convey basic information -- it is inefficient and a huge barrier, over both a short news article or better long-form journalism.

So in a thread like this, I am going to just scroll right past videos, especially longer videos or videos where the poster posts it with little or no direction and context.

The Murdaugh gravy train continues. The attorney that has been on podcasts and all over the news is now representing Stephen Smith's family. And he is promoting a GoFundMe page.

Bland has been around this for a while - he represented Gloria Satterfield’s sons.

I do hope they find out who killed the Smith kid, if there is one person in this mess that has demonstrated integrity it is Sandy Smith.

I scroll past plenty and think that's a great strategy!

Gents. This is a good five minute read. Mark is a lifelong friend of mine. He's about 5 years my senior. He joined my reserve squadron in 1992 right before he went to law school and I left active duty. We ended up being next door neighbors for three years in Columbia. In addition, we were crewed together for about 10 years in the P-3.

Mark's a Tarheel grad and Gamecock lawyer. Despite these shortcomings :^) he's one of the finest men I know. He's the lawyer you want representing you in court. Mark is Boeing's general counsel at the factory in Charleston.

He represented Satterfield's kids after the podcast and articles exposing the financial crimes. He's a personal injury, civil litigation attorney. He's got no experience in criminal. That plus the fact that he's been less than objective on the podcasts makes this feel all unethical, personal, just about money and basically just icky.

And I also hope they find out conclusively what really happened for Steven Smith. Unfortunately its become a tragic sidebar to the story and it isn't fair. It isn't fair to him, his family, and it also isn't fair to let the rumors keep swirling if Buster had nothing to do with it.

SLED was smart to await trial to be over and for a couple weeks before they announced that they have opened a homicide case. Will be interesting to see how it goes and what, if any evidence there is.

I’m also interested in knowing what they found in the AM investigation to start looking deeper into it

(I tried to send you a PM about Mark but wasn't able to.)

I recall Bland was representing the Satterfields before he was on podcasts. I remember him being on podcasts talking about the financial crimes because he was the family’s attorney and saw the evidence of the secret settlement, among other evidence.

He represents Smith’s mom, he’s not prosecuting or defending anyone for a criminal charge.

And, if I was wanting a bulldog to be my mouthpiece after 8 years of incompetence (or worse) involving my son’s blatant murder - I would call Bland in a NY minute. Bland is right now SC’s most high profile atty and I’d want him pounding anything in order to find out who killed my kid - it’s really that simple.

Who would you hire in this situation? Hoop? Some Hampton yokel?

It just feels wrong for him to be involved with as much biased commenting he's done. He seems like those class action lawyers that come in after someone else has done all the work proving it at trial. And then promoting a GoFundMe campaign to do it.

But if I had to have someone that has been involved from the beginning, and looking for a financial settlement instead of a criminal charge, I guess it would be Mark Tinsley. I'm probably looking to go outside the entire fiasco though.

Where have you seen that Sandy Smith is seeking a financial settlement for the death of her son??

I would probably get Bland to recommend a good attorney who specializes in that area. That said, she has been given the run around so much at this point that Sandy probably just wants someone she can trust. I would think Eric would at least stick with it and not stop returning her calls.

Just surmising the ultimate outcome based on the type of lawyer involved and the long shot of a criminal conviction after this long. It seems like the most likely conclusion (like the OJ settlement). Plus I would hope that SLED would have briefed her on the new investigation before she hired an attorney.

I’m not faulting her. She’s (rightly) desperate for any type of answers and closure.

I think that Andy Savage was her first attorney.

Looks like buster may be going to jail for killing his boy lover.

This stuff is Clinton family level junk.

Wonder how many other people have died over the past 15 or so years under the murdaugh umbrella?

Me thinks John Paul thru the guns in the Savannah river not Salkahatchie river on the property

Unless a credible eye witness comes forward, the Smith case is not going anywhere.
Since the original death certificate indicated something other than an intentional homicide, I don't think they investigated anything. Specifically, Stephen Smith's phone logs and other potential evidence. Cold cases can get solved, so let's hope they investigate and solve this one.

Depending on how someone states something and if in fact Buster did not play a role in Stephen Smith's death, Buster may be able to line his coffers by filing defamation suits per Johnny Depp's lawyer who represented him in the Amber Heard trial. Buster issued a statement denying involvement and clued people in on defamatory statements.

AM and Paul's criminal conduct cannot be attributed to Buster. Eric Bland and Stephen Smith's mother have both stated there is no evidence of Buster being involved in Stephen's death. Guess we'll have to see how the investigation plays out.

Its going to take something like that to bust it open. The injuries sound consistent with a lot of possible scenarios.

How ironic would it be if the evidence they uncovered during the AM murders related to Smith was also on Paul's phone?

The secret service? Why were they involved?
They are just an investigative agency with the digital forensic tools to try to break the phone.

SLED probably sent the phone, with a request for assistance, to whichever agency they could find that could break the phone.
