New republican lies in advance of the midterms.

Why are gas prices high? There are a lot of reasons. @WapPride is an expert in that industry, so you are better off asking him. I do know that the "Biden's policies" answer is just dumb and shows a lack of ability for any critical thinking. Conservatives with any common sense know this is the case, but they justify saying it anyway by pointing out that trump took all the blame for covid.

I certainly don't agree with everything that the dems do. I have been on record as saying that I don't agree with student loan forgiveness.

I believe in man made climate change and believe that, for the sake of my children, we have to do something. The dems are trying to address that. The pubs are pretending it is not real.

I believe that our tax system is set up to penalize the middle class and make it easy for rich people to not pay taxes. I say this because I am one of them. I am firmly in the 1%, and pay less than a 20% effective tax rate. I like it, I won't lie. But I also realize that it is not totally fair. I think better enforcement of the top earners is something we need.

I believe that the decision to end a pregnancy where there is rape, incest, or danger to the life of the mother, should be between the mother and her doctor and nobody else.

I believe that one group's religious beliefs should not be imposed on others. Because your book says homosexuality is a sin should not affect the right's of homosexuals.

I believe that conservatives are the minority in our society. And yet they somehow maintain control. We should have election reform so that everyone' vote counts the same.
Man, that wasn't so hard. Good job on explaining that. At least you know what you believe.

I'll take a stab at mine....

First off, I consider myself Fiscally Conservative and Socially moderate. I don't consider myself a "republican" but rather I'm certainly not a liberal.

I believe climate change is real. I don't know how much we contribute to it, but it has to be real or else we would still be in an ice age. I also really believe, there's a lot of money involved in the "research". I think this area harbors corruption and until corruption and money aren't the goal, I don't know that we will have all of the facts. I think too many corrupt people financially benefit from the ever-going R&D.

I agree with you about the tax setup. However, I believe in rewarding success and hustle. I'm sure you've read my story, but I came from absolutely poverty and that fear of being poor motivated me to do better. I don't think I should be penalized for my work ethic. Should I pay more? Yes. I believe in supporting those that can't, NOT those that won't.

I don't believe I should be telling anyone what they should do with their body or their baby. I also don't want to pay a dime for you to abort it, either. Regardless of what you decide, don't tell me the baby isn't real. I'm not dumb.

I don't care if gay's get married, have babies or do whatever they want to do. I don't care one bit. However, don't force it on people. Don't tell me that boy is a girl. "He wants to be a girl" is different than "he is a girl". If it's so natural, people will accept it anyways. Forcing it on people isn't the answer. If they try to tell you pedophilia was fine for the same reasons, "because nobody should be ashamed of who they love" would you feel the same way? Gays can't help who they love, right? So, can't the same be said for pedophiles? I doubt they choose to love kids, and go to jail and get brutalized in prison for the person they love, no? If conservatives are the minority as you believe, then only the minority would disagree. So why worry about what the minority says?

I think the media tries too hard to silence the opposing opinions, instead of letting us hear it. If it's fake news, they'll be proven a liar. If those doctors were wrong about Covid, don't ban them, they'll be proven wrong in due time. Why ban someone because they think differently than you? It's hard to prove the opposing view if there's no information to support it because it's been banned. If we're so concerned about fake news, why don't we ban the Flat earth talk, Big Foot stuff on TV, Loch Ness monster and Ancient Nazi aliens from the History Channel?

Lastly, I believe good people exist thus, I believe evil people do as well. History and declassified documents have shown that we like to infiltrate governments and do things that benefit us. I think other countries can do the same to us. I think there's people in this country who are hoping this country fails and turns into China or Russia and it's not an accident. That's their mission much like it was ours. I have an issue with that on both sides. Anyone found guilty of that should be thrown in the deepest depths.

Does this mean I'm conservative or a republican to you? I don't know, but you can most certainly consider me as someone who hates corruption and senseless wars. Good stuff though man! Glad to have a conversation and better understand each other.

Im trying really hard to understand what he considers "the other side". It's extremely hard when they can't even explain what they want. They just 😂 at everything.

For example: Do you support Antifa? gets responded with a laugh instead of yes or no and explaination.

How would you recruit me? How do explain to people what it is you wish this country to be? I just wish he would educate me. I'm so tired of "hate the orange man" or "hate anything" without explaining what it is that you want. It's like if you hate communism, you must love Trump... wuuuuuuttt? If you hate Antifa, you must love Trump... wuuuuut? If you hate corrupt politicians "well what about Trump?" wuuuuut?

How am I supposed to take you seriously when you say things like this:
  • "I don't think it's an accident people are ok with this country failing" (who are you implying wants it to fail?)
  • "They should treat every single one of them like Antifa members" (I was talking about the fascist insurrectionists NOT the ones who oppose them that have NOTHING to do with Jan.6. Fake news has you believing Antifa is omnipresent, stirring up violence and mayhem everywhere, that's worse than the far right - not true)
  • "You support Antifa?" (I support anti-fascism but not those who advocate violence to oppose it)
  • "You ok with grooming kids? You support pedophilia? " (What in the fvck kind of question is this? It's not rational, that I can tell you)
Then this in another thread:
  • "Which one will support the shutdown of schools again?" (LOL, this is your brain on anti-dem nonsense. How can you say yes or no to this without knowing what's coming? What if we have an even deadlier pandemic that kills children at a higher rate than adults? Would you want your kids in school then?)
  • "Which one supports grooming of children?" (Ridiculous question - this is your brain on Fake News that has you believing that the left is full of groomers and pedophiles. Who the hell would SUPPORT grooming?)
If you want a serious conversation, this is not the way you start it. Got it?

I'll take a stab at it, because I enjoy discussion.

- I think we have people in this country who prefer it to be communist. That's not who we are, and I think they would celebrate the fall of this great country. I can't help if you disagree.

- I still believe anyone who would "stomp a police officer" as you depicted in your picture, should be treated like trash and sent to prison for life. Much like Antifa, who also seems to hate cops or any sort of authority. Antifa is very real. You believe every single person in that crowd was a registered republican? Thats not dangerous? It's certainly not true. Antifa literally funded and helped burn cities and that's ok? Let's see what happens after the red wave. See if Antifa comes back around again.

- Glad you don't support Antifa. I don't support anyone who would march into the US Capitol and I dont have a problem saying that. I've also yet to meet a "Trumper" that supports that either. Weird huh? I also don't believe the lie that the President ordered it. Thats dangerous to say he ordered, no? That's dangerous to say 6 cops were killed, no?

- I don't believe they didn't know covid was coming. It's been proven that nearly everything they said was in fact a lie. It certainly wasn't close to being true. So, you and I will fundamentally disagree here. You obviously thought some guy ate a bat and we all got Covid and Fauci never funded it. Again, you must not believe in corruption. I happen to be married to an extremely high "official" (for lack of a better term) in the state of SC in regard to Covid. She's sense left the medical field entirely due to the corruption and fear of speaking out. She's not the only one. I'll trust my wife.

-It's a fair question IMO. Drag queens reading to children aren't cool, IMO. Maybe I'm misinterpreting their goal. Maybe that's not grooming. But either way, I'm glad you don't support it.

I'll say this. It's extremely weird to me that you assume I watch Fox. Dude, I bet you've watched more Fox in your life than me. no joke. I can't stand any "news". It's fodder and it's mostly propaganda. Because I have this opinion does not mean I watch Fox. That's where you guys get it wrong. I'm far from a church going conservative, my man. That's just not me.

With all that lame conspiratorial nonsense, you might as well have.
"Everything is a conspiracy theory" is a weird hill to die on. It's also not serious discussion. It's a conspiracy theory only because it's foreign to you. That doesn't make it a conspiracy theory.

Any who.. keep trolling others, you're better at that.

Whoaaa there Stymie, what other life did you have?

Braggadocious people like yourself are typicaly insecure. People who are happy and content never have to brag.
You an Trump have more in common that you thought!

I think I remember you spewing not to long ago you had all the money you needed.
When you grow up and become an adult like the rest of us, you'll realize wherre you've been misled.

I said "living my best life", you are the one that tied that to money. How is saying I am living my best life bragging? I believe you may need to grow up.

Oh, and the thought that you could make me feel insecure.

tell me why that is?
Ask Google: "is government reducing oil leases", and we can go from there.

Of course, the full answer is multifaceted and includes at least some culpability by Big Oil, but I would submit that Big Oil is doing what any company would do when deal ing with a hostile regulatory body, a massive overtly negative multimedia campaign, and a serious attack to shut off their access to capital (via ESG).

...
I believe climate change is real. I don't know how much we contribute to it, but it has to be real or else we would still be in an ice age.
This is objectively not true. We exited last full ice age tens of thousands of years ago. We exited the "little ice age" in the early 1700s.

Nevertheless, I too agree that humans do probably affect our short term climate in some way. I just think it is too small to be measured in any objective way and so thoroughly dominated by other factors so as to be unimportant.

An example of one of the "other factors" I have cited before is the Tonga underwater volcano erupting. Live Science says this will warm the planet for years (far and away dominating anything we humans could do in that time). The reality is, climate impacting events such as these occur routinely.

1. Trying to find ways to replace 8 mbpd of crude from Russia that is now blackballed on the global market.
2. Global inflation which has caused the price of deep water barging to increase by around ~$50/nt from the Aegean to the US.
3. Chinese fuel consumption increasing at a rate of over 3% year over year when the rest of the world has been showing a negative growth of fuel consumption.
4. internal US riverways being lower than normal thanks to climate change and droughts which have hindered the amount of river barging allowed in the internal US. Rail companies not only threatening strikes, but also being short on rail cars thanks to the barging hindrances (as it's the backup trans medium to river barging) thus causing a potential supply chain issue.
5. Lack of efficient refining capacity in the US that can take advantage of the light crude we generate.

just a couple off the top of my head
If we are engery independent 1, 2 and 3 matter very little.

For 4, you would think one would conclude that pipelines would be a good, efficient way to move oil... Remind me again the last two administrations that effectively killed our latest major attempt to build a pipeline?

For 5, yes. This is also a very serious problem, but that would only lead to a buildup of crude, not a shortage.

And unless you want to stay completely divorced from reality, let's talk about some of the root causes of inflation...to which Trump absolutely bears some blame. Hemorrhaging trillions of dollars into a supply-constrained economy leads to drastic inflation every time and you don't even need complex math to see that.

I believe that conservatives are the minority in our society. And yet they somehow maintain control. We should have election reform so that everyone' vote counts the same.
This is objectively, verifiably false. Conservatives trade places with moderates as the largest voting block year-over-year with liberals being behind either block by double digit numbers. There is no reason a liberal Democrat should ever win a national election if the playing field was not somehow tilted toward the extreme minority party.

Yep. It’s a center-right country.

Energy independence matters very little to the global price of oil - which is one of the reasons why the price of oil is up. Unless, of course, you want to nationalize US O&G refineries so they don’t get to raise rates to match global oil prices. The whole “if the us was energy independent we’d be fine!” meme comes from a place of ignorance about how the O&G field works.

I’m not getting into Keystone because if you think that adversely affected oil prices you’re a lost cause. 1. It wouldn’t even be operational right now, and 2 US refineries don’t have the current capacity to refine the additional 800k bpd keystone would deliver.

Inflation is a global issue right now - not just a US problem. I agree that pumping trillions into the economy wasn’t the best course of action during a time when we should’ve been raising rates and taxes.

First of all, I said that it would "matter little" if the US was energy independent, not that it would not matter at all. I suspect US would rise to meet much of the increased demand; but even still, the increased revenue pours into America. Also, perhaps more importantly, the leverage oil has on geopolitics tilts significantly back in our direction.

Despite your attempt to insult someone you don't even know, no, I am well aware that Keystone alone does not solve our distribution problems. But it does serve as a symbol of which party is actively working against the interest of the American public at large.

I'm also not too young to remember Bill Clinton telling the public that opening up more land for drilling would do nothing the help our country...that that oil would not be brought to market for "more than ten years" (that was about 24 years ago). Again, like the Keystone... (make your own judgement as to what should follow).

Lastly, raising taxes? Really? For what? How does "more government" help us? Inflation is indeed a global issue, but it does not need to be felt as acutely in the US as has been forced upon us due to the utter ineptitude of government at all levels and from both parties....and you want to give them more power via increased taxes?

They are bright and talented for sure. But having kids, earning real money, paying real taxes, etc certainly influences your views.

I’m pretty drunk right now so please bare with me, but nah man you said points 1, 2, and 3 would matter very little if we were energy independent.
We are already the #1 extractor of oil in the world, and have been for years. What is this “increased revenue” that is going to pour into the US? Also, FYI we are currently “energy independent” and have been since Trump was in office.

what most people seem to have an inability to grasp is even if we produced another 8mbpd and completely replaced what Russia used to generate, we don’t have the refinery capacity domestically to process that. US refineries are already running at max production.

In terms of total petroleum production, you are right. We produce more than we take in. However, in crude oil specifically (what we are actually talking about), we imported 6.11 million barrels per day against 2.96 million in exports in 2021.

I'm still working to flesh out the 2022 numbers... I feel certain production has only plummeted since last year (principally causing/ exacerbating fuel prices, inflation, etc). The new regime can only shut down oil drilling so fast.

And you are also 100% correct about our refining capacity...as I think I already admitted in previous posts...but happy to do so again here. We need more refineries. It's inexcusable that we do not have better refining capacity.

@WapPride Continuing from my previous post...

As I said, 2022 data is a bit difficult to flesh out, but the best I can tell from the eia.gov site I linked to in the previous post, our net imports look to only be up 10%, and correspondingly our net crude oil production is likewise only down about 10% from the 13 million barrels per day (from an all-time high March 6th, shortly after which oil prices negative).

Now, after spending some time to tighten up the data and reign in some (of my own) hyperbole, the point remains that there is still space on the global market for more crude oil capacity and still more production capability in the US to rise to meet it. Back when we were producing 13 million barrels per day it was said that we still had the production potential to further eclipse even that number.

Of course, as you also correctly pointed out it about more than production, it got to be shipped, refined and shipped yet again--all of which have been squeezed by combinations of political pressures, war and the pandemic. The war and pandemic we can/could do little about.

But the political pressure...

Political pressure is nothing more than self-induced suffering and a missed opportunity for the US to rise to the occasion.

Political pressure has created a hostile lending environment for oil companies and is actively frustrating access to capital.

Political pressure stymies and halts improved oil distribution infrastructure (hello again Keystone).

Political pressure is the reason we have not improved our oil refining capability.

Politics is the art of manipulating the masses (aka demagoguery). It is nothing more nor nothing less than this.

Our nation is really not that divided. On the absolute essential issues, I suspect there is more than two-thirds to 75% agreement among the population. This is largely confirmed by decades of polls from various sources that consistently cast the country as around 80% moderate-to-conservative against the less than 20% that identify as liberal/progressive. Truly an amazing thing once you consider all the forces (media at all levels, academia) out there dogmatically attempting to advance progressivism.

Thanks for the levity

So why worry about what the minority says?

you described yourself as a social moderate.

this is not something a "moderate" would type.

im just saying.

I am curious to know, then, where do you rate this on the "social ideology" scale (is that what we should call it)? Seriously, I want to know. I'd also like to know which parts are not moderate/extreme in your view?

I hope you'll stay engaged for further serious discussion.

They are bright and talented for sure. But having kids, earning real money, paying real taxes, etc certainly influences your views.
So are you with me on abolishing the electoral college? We are a center right country, so that should work out for you right?

No. Just look at PA, IL and NY. A very specific area (Philly, Chicago and NYC) dictates the politics of the entire state. People who live very different lives, have different values and want different leadership being controlled by voters in a single metro.

This is a glimpse into what would happen nationally without the electoral college. People living a wonderful life in Mt. Pleasant, SC being subjected to high federal taxes, government overreach, etc. No thank you.

Our country's model of government wasn't established to allow for mob rule (simple majority). That's how you get people voting to just take money from producers and reallocate it to themselves (this already happens by losers in the D base). We need a shield against this sort of thing. The electoral college and equal state representation in the Senate protect us from mob rule.

It's all a moot point anyways. I think you need a constitutional amendment ratified by 3/4 of the states to change it. That's never happening, so the discussion isn't anything more than pointless whining.
